PES2 for PS1: Am I too stupid for this game? Urgent Questions!

Hi there,

after not using my PSone at all for 2 or 3 years, I was in the right mood for a good and cheap soccer game and have bought pro evolution soccer 2 five days ago.

Quite a good deal, I thought, because the reviews rated the game quite good, though most of them were about the ps2 version of the game.
And yes, there are things I really love in the game (e.g. ball behaviour - its the best I've ever seen in a soccer game), but some flaws really trouble me!

If any of the following shortcomings are not the games but my faults, *please* let me know! I still hope, that the game is not as limiting as it currently seems to me!

- Playing Club Teams -
It is impossible to play with the club teams - one can just play against them by choosing the Master League mode! In the Master League mode, you can select the team you want to play with, but it always consists of the same weak players. If I wanted to play with a certain club team, all I can do is buying one real player after the other. But thats a damn long way to go!

- Editing -
One can not edit the player names / abilities of the club teams, except for players that also play in a national team. Names of the club teams cannot be changed. Players cannot be transferred from one club team to another (only in master league mode).
Created players always cost 50 points, no matter how strong they are. They cannot be registered in club teams.

- Gameplay -
CPU controlled teammates often behave very passive. If you pass the ball to them, they are rooted to the spot in a sudden, and the opponent players have a lot of time to jump into the gap and to get the ball. This happens way too often for my taste.

- Dribbling -
The cpu is dribbling better than any human player will ever be able to. Sometimes even at easy difficulty.

- Tactics / strategy -
Opponent, cpu controlled players are always in the right spot. They have a lot of room for playing passes and shooting, whereas I am always pressed by the opponent and don't know where to play the ball next, because there are opponent players in the way, no matter to whom i would want to play the ball....probably my fault (I hope!). What can I do to have more room for myself and to minimize the room for my opponent?

Thats all I have on my mind for now... :)
It's just too frustrating if things don't work as they should!

Regards,
Tobias

edit: maybe this is the wrong forum for my post....what forum would be most appropriate for it?

I believe PES2 was the last one they made for PS1.
tappex knows to ask for a PS2 for X-Mas.... or maybe an xbox?
Hmmmmmmm.

My guesses:
You can play as clubs in exhibition and cup mode. By editing the Konami Cup you can play a league of clubs. There's a thread about this somewhere if you try the Search function.

You're mostly correct about the editing. But you can edit the names and stats for every player - this is how you can make pretend 'transfers' in pes2 - by editing all the stats so that a player 'becomes' someone else.

As for the rest of the issues, experiment with different difficulty levels and find one where you feel it is right for you. Use the Super-cancel move to move players manually from their standing and running modes - do this by holding both R1+R2 for a player who doesn't have the ball. Good luck.

I can edit every player that is in a national team! I haven't found out how to edit mere club players yet....whats the trick?

The thread is over here.

Can't quite remember about the club players. Should be in edit mode and then edit player and then when you see the national team flags, press R1 to move to the next screen and keep going till you see the club you want and then choose the player you want to edit. I think.

well, obviously this only works for the ps2 version of the game. I cannot select any clubteams within the konami cup. I've tried left/right, r1/l1, r2/l2 and select on every button, but there are no club teams to select. I really can't undertand that. Why does Konami implement those teams, but does not allow the player to use them?
:(

Really annoying.....way too much useless restrictions.....

perhaps you should read the manual that came with the game.

I have read the manual several times. There's absolutely nothing it, that would help solving my problems....

To play as the club teams in exhibition mode complete a season of the master league and they'll appear where all the question marks are.

I only have 9 question marks, each standing for an all star team ("genuine germany" etc.), so this most likely won't help it :(
