PES2 Vs PES3

PES2 was very good, but can`t compare with the follow-up. When I played PES2 I eventually was playing without thinking. In PES3 I have to stay sharp and focused to find a hole in the defense. Excellent!

PES3/WE7 is the true evolution from PES1 IMO. I think PES2 was the black sheep of the family mainly for the crucial fact that the all important balance between defence and attack was gone. In PES2 the "Red Sea" problem, poor defensive AI compared to Offensive dribbling and general lack of any midfield ensured the game was end to end with lots of running and lots of shots. PES3 goes back to a tighter midfield and and even tighter AI defence, holding the ball up, speading it across the pitch looking for that opening is much more rewarding experience and a true representation of football, or at least the best we've currently got.

I played my pal of a similar standard to myself, and we played a two legged England v Turkey match 15 minutes each, both finished 0-0 & went to extra time. Thats 40 minutes without a goal, which some people may of found boring but i know id prefer that than two games finishing 3-3 or 4-4.

cheers

I loved PES2 just as much as all the others, but #3 is such a quantum leap in terms of responsiveness and realism.

I do miss the cheesy eurotrance goal celebration music, but at least they sort of remixed it for the highlights bit at half/full time. I also agree with giggsy, the graphics don't seem as sharp as before - i had real difficulty seeing the ball at first (i'm used to it now and it's no problem :)) but they do seem more realistic.

I think they used Renderware for the previous PESs which made for smoother but less realistic graphics. The great thing about PES3 graphics is that they sometimes look like a real game on tv,especially in some of the replays.

It was too easy to score in PES2 : if you came in at a tangent to 18 yard box with a decent striker like crespo you could easily score. I think they've done an amazing job with the defender's AI which prevents you from just waltzing through the centre anymore.

Some people have said that the ball feels too 'light', but after having gotten used to it I have to say it makes for far more realistic shooting. You need you exercise more control over the power of the shot, which makes it really satisfying when you send a screamer into the top corner!

I think that PES3 is the best so far with PES soccer in 2nd. PES2 is third in that list as it was to easy score and their was an inbalance between good attacking and poor defending. PES3 rules.

I believe that PES3 is far better than PES2. I think the whole fell of the game is more realistic and resembles the real game more than ever. I find scoring so much more difficult on PES3, just when you think you is clean through on goal, you are tackled in the last minute. The dribbling is fantastic; no more 180-degree turns on the edge of the 18 yard line and then blast the ball in the top corner, now you have to build up to your goal, pass around and pick out small gaps in the opponents defence with a clever through ball. I can’t even score 3 goals in one match on 3 stars, let alone 4 or 5 stars. My master league is on 4 stars and I find that the only win I get would be 1-0, otherwise it will be a 0-0 draw. I prefer this greatly compared to the 5-4 wins on PES2. You can no longer pick up the ball in your defence with Babangida and use the R1 button and diagonal turns straight past the player and score at the end of a run the length of the whole pitch, without the player even tiring!

Despite my bad words for PES2, I loved this game just as much as PES1, it is just compared to PES3, it is a joke.

Well-done Konami!

My only worry is that pes3 is starting to get easy.

i don't mean to sound big headed but i haven't got a problem scoring any more and defending is a piece of piss.

i been beating france brazil madrid and more all with cleansheets
like i beat france 2-0 and i had 21 shots to their 4.

i agree with tommiguns point, i actually literally looked up at the score board after 85 mins in some matches and thought "3-0? NICE! but where the hell was i?" it became that easy to score and even on 5* the computer didn't carry much threat during the last weeks of PES2's reign

In my opinion PES3 is more difficult than PES2. PES3 has better graphics and it SHOULD have. the general idea is that PES2 was better than PES1 (in all sections) and PES3 is better than PES2. in the future PES4 will be better than PES. one of the things that I like more in 3 than 2 is that the com teams are defending and attacking much much better. in PES2 you knew what the com player would do before he even thinks about it. in PES things are more difficult and I like this challenge. ( in PES2 in order to light a cigarrete I played one armed, in PES3 I have to pause the game and light my cigarrete. I guess this example says it all)

This is one of my recent threads from the 'PES3 Impressions' forum, I just had to copy it over here..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well off course I'm aware that PES2 has it flaws, but I was hoping that they should take core of the game and just tweak the flaws away.
Actually I'm not that amused over the graphics either in PES3 ..and really if a game is good the graphics come in second hand. I mean I got the sense that some players 'hovered' over the ground like ghost some times ..not really connected to the ground.
The (quote) "ping pong" feeling when you do some passes is awful, and the goalies action look like some sci-fi thingy more than football.

This is just MY thoughts ..to fast ..lack of feel ..and dosn't raise any hairs on my arms. A disapointmnet in my eyes.

There!! .. it's out please dig in =)

Dont question the game of champions

I've mentioned the qualities of pes3 on other threads, but i feel it is the best on the grounds my mates cant just run back and forwards on the edge of the box til they can turn and score. That used to annoy me a lot, the game of champions now demands build up play of a high calibre. For those of you saying its too easy, how about you stop being france, brazil etc and try being jamaica or someone. I beat my mate with prague the other day when he was real madrid, its most satisfying to be the underdog (my mate is rubbish mind). The only thing i dislike is the occasional failure of the camera to follow the ball after a hard shot, it does't spoil anything though, its a minor problem.PS. If anyone links the pro ev quality to fifa again, they should be banned from the boards.

My defense is pretty shit hot too, but then I'm a defender in real life so it comes naturally to me. I feel as long as you maintain your formation you can keep your opponent out (cpu or human) until the cows come home.

yeah dead right.

you can't just run full pelt at the attack like on pes2 you haved to time it well and then hit tackle at the right moment

giggsy and a121509 can you tell be the best method to defend in PES3...zone,mark,covering,strategies(zone press,overlap..etc) keep pressing x or square..i find PES3 ridiculous when it comes to defending agaist the cpu...sometime i have 3 men..including roberto carlos on the side of the cpu player ..and all they do keep nudging away..but when it's my turn to get past them only 2 out 5 times i can get through. It's really pissing me off..seems like every player is a okocha, denilson, figo at dribbling..and has the speed of owen...pls help me...if i dont learn the art of defending it's goodbye to PES3 and back to PES2!

just keep backing off the attacker without gluing your fingure to the x or r1 buttons.

then as the player gets closer THEN hit the r1 and x buttons to run after him and tackle him to put pressure on him.

if you do it too soon you end up diving in and the player taking it round you.

Yeah, it's best to hold your ground and let the attacker come to you. As you long as your players stand firm then the attackers will find it just as hard to attack as you currently do.

If you are having real trouble defending, how about experimenting with alternative formations? When i started out with ISS pro evo on the PSX i was using 5 -3 -2 which allowed me to sit back and absorb attacks. You should have more success playing like this, and once you've improved your defensive skills you will be able to defend just as well with 4 -4-2 or even 3 at the back.

Post about PES2 vs PES3 keep popping up and i can't resist from write this any longer.
PES3 IS THE GREATEST FOOBALL GAME EVER FULL STOP.
p.s.
it is more than the natural progression from one series to another, it is beneath the surface where its genius lies.
it is still pick up and play
The challenge of mastering the art that is PES3, is one that that requires your undivided attention.

the game has added a defending aspect to it, this makes it better.
i don't scream at the game any more because i know every fualt is mine becuse i didn't do it properly(other than referee decision realism) which increases my desire learn.
ball don't float if you hit it right (hint; it actually matters how they ball bounces, pace and your posioning timing stand an inch to the left and hit the shoot half a second later and the shot will be total difference)
konomi actually said more 'realistic' keeping which don't mean they can fly from one post to another, cos i know i hardly see this shit wheni'm watching real football
skillz are a blessing because agian you have 25++ deeply satisfying ones to perfect and time cos if you don't then they won't work.
i love this game because you have alMOST
total control and if you find it to hard it is because of you
if you can't score it because you lack the creative thought or are just innocent to it endless capabilities.
if it too realistic simply F-off to anything, i don't care
SOME people cleary don't understand what kanomi have done (please excuse konomi for producing a game that actually takes practise)
i think the game mechanics are too deep for some premitive PES2 caveboys
it seperates the men from the spoilt innocent boys
has it minor fualts but these get comourflaged PES3 detail to uniqueness
...........................
perfection is this only objective
