PES2008...Wots the Cut Back Queens Verdict???

Have been playing the demo with extended time patch loads recently and have got to say that whilst the game is much more crisp and the gameplay nuances are much greater, the latest supposedly Next Gen ProEv still carries the same old frustrating flaws.

In addition to the persisting inability to reliably play a nice long high pass to your players and a reliable means of having them control the thing and knock it on (this is a gameplay area where next gen FIFA is 100% solid1); and the fact that the (adaptive) AI still results in pure n simple 'cheating' by scripting your passes astray, running your players out of position etc, it seems to me that despite all the upgrades that PES2008 has undertaken, that the same old boring godawful dribble-dribble-pass-dribble-cut-back-GOAL scoring method which has greatly ruined this game as a 2 player contest since PES4......IS STILL IN THE FRIGGING GAME!!!

Now...cos I find that way of playing to be quite lame and unrewarding.....I never really try for it (unless the opportunity just happens to occur) and therefore when I do try, I aint really got the expert ability in pulling of a lame cut-back goal.....BUT I HAVE NONTHELESS SCORED A FEW in this demo......and dribbling and passing in and around the box does seem VERY easy...

So....can any cut-back-Queens confirm whether there all time favourite method of winning games is just as easy in PES2008 as it has been in PES4, PES6.....and even PES5?

Cut-backs are part of football, and thus, Pro Evo. Accept it.

Oh really?

And what Premiership manager tells their strikers to run into the penalty box with the ball, hold it up, twist turn and dribble like a fairy until a fellow striker finds himself unmarked at the edge of the 6 yard box at which point u should lay it off to him setting him up for the open goal?

NONE DO, COS IN REAL FOOTBALL, THIS WOULD BE AN INSANE GAMEPLAN as getting into such situations is immensely difficult and even when strikers do get into those positions, they will have a matter of a few seconds before the opposition defence has clamped them down and the chance will be lost............Yet in PES, if you play soley to win, then due to the AI flaws in the game, it is the only style of football to play......and in PES, your strikers can hold it up inside and around pen box for about 30 seconds or however long is needed for the AI weaknesses to open up.....!

And I wasn't asking an opinion of whether you thought the cut backs were good or bad.....I was wanting to know how any cut-back expert is finding scoring them on the latest PES game.

The fact you can easily dribble past the defenders is far more of an issue than the cut-backs now.

Thankyou for that.......

.....Then I assume from that the scope for lame gameplay is even bigger than ever before........Still...for all its other limitations, I do enjoy the game one player.....but I will no doubt hate it when I start playing multiplayer online and end up binning the game before X-mas....(as I did with PES6)

i suppose you dont agree with dives being added either....it not being Honourable and all....

I am in two minds about the dives. All depends on how well the diving system has been implemented into the game......If there is anyway that human players can learn to totally exploit it (a la lame dribblin-passin-dribblin-dive-PENALTY-GOAL!!), then the diving feature WILL kill the game UNLESS it can be turned off........Also, if PES2008 is anything like PES6, there will be long periods in two player games where the AI starts favouring one team over the other. IF when this happens (and the 'slanted pitch' AI is still in the game big style) the referee starts giving freekicks for every 2nd lame dive, then this will lead to maddening frustration and hatred towards the game. Joypads will be destroyed, monitors cracked, and windows broken.

Including diving is a very bold move indeed with a huge chance of backfiring and damaging the series reputation amongst its increasingly frustrated hardcore fans even further.

I couldnt agree more with this post. Any dev team that leaves an unrealistic and easy-to-repeat way to score in the code is just plain sloppy and lazy. Not to mention the ridiculous "comeback logic" that is so obvious in this game. As Mat-the-cat states, degrading my players to complete morons is not a good way to make the game challenging. I cant stand FIFA and was really hoping for more than just a bouncier ball and better graphics for this release of PES.

O well,Cheers!

There is much MUCH more to this release than a bouncier ball and better graphics.....

The potential nuances in gameplay options have been vastly increased and as u play more and more, the games potential increases to widen.....regardless of the same old limiting factors that have been a part of the game since day 1.

However......a vast increase in the playability and the spectrum of gameplay options means shit when the same old fecking lame AI flaws which have been in the game since ProEv4, are STILL plauging the latest offering.......

PES2008 may be a great game to play 1 player....better and more challenging than ever before.....but when it comes to 2 player.......urghhhh...forget it......like PES6, it will be another 2 months of the same old repetitive exploitative crap until I lose the motivation to play it any longer.

Its such a shame that so much effort has been put into certain aspects of the game engine yet the same old defensive AI flaws persist.... Have the devs really got no sense at all over this glaring hole in the games AI? Or is it just a hole that cannot be fixed without scrapping the whole game engine and starting from scratch?

I guess they would have to start from scratch mate, i can see the same flaws in every installation of PES... the stupid and cheating AI is still there, ready to make your ML a nightmare. I hope they do something to the code, im not buying this game if i read the final version has the same big flaws i have seen in this demo.

Oh stop whining. The game isnt even released and yet you are already complaining. Besides, cut back goals as you call always have been a rarity for me, in fact whenever I score one it comes as a welcome break from the usual. Everyone has a different style of play and some players are better than others and can score in all different ways. It depends what kind of player you are.

They may be a rarity for you to score.......or even a rarity for your mates that you play against to score...

But go play any ProEvo since ProEv 4 online......and you will find that cut-backs (and by cut-backs I also include the uber lame goals from excessive dribbling and passing inside the box) getting scored against you far from being a rarity, are the single most common goal for you to concede by a ratio of 8:1. You will either continue to play the game in a way that entertains you and not mind losing most of your matches....or you will adapt and learn to master the lame goal exploits transforming your game into a banal repetative process which you wouldnt even enjoy if not for the winning.
