like all of you i was eagerly awaiting the arrival of pes4. i had pes3 and i thought it was incredible. once i heard that pes4 was goin to have a sponsor editor, i whooped with delight! the final piece of the jigsaw i thought. i had pes3 on the ps2 so i decided to get pes4 on the xbox this time.
i am disgusted with this game.
allow me to explain why. while it looks great (yet marginally better than pes3), has class animation and editing options it falls down in too many areas in my opinion. it plays like an absolute dog compared to pes3, and thats only partly to do with the controller. player movement is laboured, and frankly unrealistic, player first touch is abysmal at the best of times. passing is dreadful, if this was how real players played noone would watch the game! the ref calls fouls for literally nothing, i cannot count how many times ive jostled for a ball, touching no buttons except the dpad and pheep! foul. why? this is supposed to be fun.
i accept that some of these are on purpose in order to stop constant runs from the halfway line ending in goals everytime, something that became almost all too easy to anyone half decent at pes3. in fact, i could overlook it to a degree, get used to it. but why oh why do your players stand next to the ball doin nothin just because you have another player selected?? i know you can change man but for gods sake, common sense would suggest that no player would ignore a loose ball 2 yards from him. and that happens all too often.
then we have the edit mode, which should have been its shining moment. what on earth were konami thinking by removing such basic options that existed in pes3? commentators you continue to say the wrong team name after youve corrected them. why include an edit team option only to spoil it with such a basic flaw. and then theres the striped kits debacle. idiots. my precious team "omen villa cf", who beat all comers in pes3, whose black and blue stripes strike fear into the hearts of many (who i play against), now look a pale imitation of themselves. for absolutely no justifiable reason. sickening.
add to that the repeated corrupting of my option file and im just about ready to trade it in and get my old pes3 back. and i say that hand on heart.
i just had to get that off my chest. i know some (perhaps many) will disagree with me, this is merely my humble opinion. i love pes3 and am angered by this shoddy follow up.
oh ya, i know it says pros and cons in the title and i only list cons. maybe some of you can lift my gloom by pointing out some pros.
