pes4 pros and cons

like all of you i was eagerly awaiting the arrival of pes4. i had pes3 and i thought it was incredible. once i heard that pes4 was goin to have a sponsor editor, i whooped with delight! the final piece of the jigsaw i thought. i had pes3 on the ps2 so i decided to get pes4 on the xbox this time.
i am disgusted with this game.

allow me to explain why. while it looks great (yet marginally better than pes3), has class animation and editing options it falls down in too many areas in my opinion. it plays like an absolute dog compared to pes3, and thats only partly to do with the controller. player movement is laboured, and frankly unrealistic, player first touch is abysmal at the best of times. passing is dreadful, if this was how real players played noone would watch the game! the ref calls fouls for literally nothing, i cannot count how many times ive jostled for a ball, touching no buttons except the dpad and pheep! foul. why? this is supposed to be fun.

i accept that some of these are on purpose in order to stop constant runs from the halfway line ending in goals everytime, something that became almost all too easy to anyone half decent at pes3. in fact, i could overlook it to a degree, get used to it. but why oh why do your players stand next to the ball doin nothin just because you have another player selected?? i know you can change man but for gods sake, common sense would suggest that no player would ignore a loose ball 2 yards from him. and that happens all too often.

then we have the edit mode, which should have been its shining moment. what on earth were konami thinking by removing such basic options that existed in pes3? commentators you continue to say the wrong team name after youve corrected them. why include an edit team option only to spoil it with such a basic flaw. and then theres the striped kits debacle. idiots. my precious team "omen villa cf", who beat all comers in pes3, whose black and blue stripes strike fear into the hearts of many (who i play against), now look a pale imitation of themselves. for absolutely no justifiable reason. sickening.

add to that the repeated corrupting of my option file and im just about ready to trade it in and get my old pes3 back. and i say that hand on heart.
i just had to get that off my chest. i know some (perhaps many) will disagree with me, this is merely my humble opinion. i love pes3 and am angered by this shoddy follow up.

oh ya, i know it says pros and cons in the title and i only list cons. maybe some of you can lift my gloom by pointing out some pros.

yep, it stops me from kicking in my tv screen.
i dont hate the game, but it doesnt improve on its predecessor enough. in some cases it has taken steps backward and its just not good enough. if they want us to buy their games they should at least give us what we want. im sure celtic fans would agree with that much.
and again, its merely my opinion, just felt like venting my spleen. noone forced you to read it.

pros: Live (on Xbox). More club teams and players.

cons: editing is a bad joke. No stripped shirts, bald players evertime you want to edit someones hair, no edit for teams commentary names, tiny shirt colour palette, players ages being all over the place..

i agree, its not crap. in the grand scheme of things i would actually rate it quite highly, were it not for the pes games it has followed.

Daymz just a question do you have a corrupted file every single time you try and edit master league players? Because if you do I know excatly what you mean... anyone know anything about this at all? It's really pissing me off; 4 hours of editing (cause I can't get any external editors to work) paranoid checking to make sure the option file loads. Turn of the 'box and ten back on and it works fine. Great i thinK to myself, all sorted! Turn it on next morning and the effing thing goes "option file corrupted"! This is precisely why I bought for my xbox not ps2 I got fed up with losing memory cards so I thought I'll get it on the xbox can't lose that and now this!

not every time, i bought the game on its release day and it has happened 3 times. the first 2 times it happened i foolishly believed it wouldnt occur again and jumped headlong back into the editing. ive got a max drive on the way so that should solve that problem to some degree. still a real pain tho.

I used to play PES3 on the PC and now ive just purchased PES4 on the XBOX i must say i agree with everything you have said except for the foul thing. Referees have become a lot better now.

What i hate is how fast the game speed is. It makes for a more "arcadish" game than PES3. And player animations are also rather crap. I give you one example if youre taking a goal kick with your keeper and just do a short pass he streches and does an "outside of the foot" kick. WTF is this? no pressure all the time in the world any player would pass with their instep.

I wish there was a way to slow down gamespeed for the XBOX, used to be able to for PES3 in PC after applying the official patch.

just because its the best out there doesnt mean its without its flaws. it is a class game but it could very, very easily have been much better. the master league and the sponsor/logo editor are real plusses, a real step forward. but too much else in the game has either stood still or taken a step back. i also must stress this is simply my opinion. if you love the game then frankly i envy you!

But what I dont understand about Konami is that they include things then take them away in later versions. For example when a tea is a goal down and they hit a goal late in the game, the scorer will grab the ball and take it up to the centre without a celebration. Well this has made a return now, but it was out the last 2 games i think. Also with the striped kits, as it was in pes3 now its gone. They will probably bring back the stripes i pes5 and call it a new feature. Dont quite see the logic in konami making us think we are getting new features when they are ones that were used at some point in time.

Still love the game though, eventhough it pisses me off quite a bit.

i really do love this game it is by far the best game ever to be placed on any console.but am i the only one who thinks that there should be an extended master league cos i know you start off in div.2 but there is only 2 leagues and thats it i think that there should be 3 or 4 in my opinion that would make the game even more everlasting.

yeah i agree, i'd like to see more divisions.

Cause there are too many good teams left out not too mention weaker ones suited for a 3rd division.
