Well yeah course it does.... otherwise why bother making anything realistic at all?? ... basically what the producers/creators should be looking to do is make the game as realistic as possible, just like watching a game of football on the tv.... but u have control of all the players. Maybe ur not worried bout the kits/boots/appearance - but i think most other people will agree that it makes the game much better to play.
