PES5 PS2 is crap online....

I beg your pardon?
Had a few games round my mates and I was very dissapointed, there seemed to be a delay and the players just weren't doing what I asked of them.
Such a shame cos I had my hopes built up.
My first game I picked Newcastle (Tyneside) against some dude with Inter Milan, and the first half went well, was 1-0 up and prevented him from any chances, then it started going to shit, poor response from the controls and general wierd goings on. I ended up getting beat 3-1.
Next game I went AC Milan against Arsenal and got beat 3-0, just couldn't seem to get used to the errors, The ball seemed to go through the players as I tried to control it, by the time they pulled off the turns I tried it was too late, and many other silly problems.
Before anyone says it wasn't just cos I was shit, it truly was cos it wasn't doing what I wanted. Jumpy, glitchy, silly errors. Shit.

I agree although I wouldnt say it was shit. Its just not as good but then again the fact that you can play against someone anywhere more than compensates for me.

you players lets it run because you probably pressed R1 just before the ball arrived to your player, because it doesn't happen maybe more than 2-3 times a game if its bad.

maybe your pad is dodgey

Unlucky there jMz. It takes a while to get used to playing online and I think it's a whole different game to offline. It's basically one half where you can play and one where you have to try to survive. I'm not a fan of it and have stopped playing online. Try to think and act a couple of seconds earlier to account for the lag. If you're like me you tend to wait till the last second before making a pass, shot etc and that won't work online.

LFC, please don't patronise me, I know how to play PES5 no problem offline, it's just like Zyg says, it's different and I don't like it. I have spent years honing my PES skills, and then I get the chance to show them around the world, and it's a different game altogether.

I'll wait for PES6 on the 360, which provides the ultimate online experience as far as I've seen so far.

You are right - you can play for 90 minutes against a supposedly better player and then you lose control of your players for a split second - thats all it takes to lose possession or concede a goal. It can be very frustrating.

I personally never play people with yellow connection only those with green, and I have never had trouble with lag. Your first few games are bound to be rubbish but you will get times when you have a really close match and end up winning. The feeling beats anything you can get playing offline (unless you play mates).

yeah but isnt that in some way realistic? some times that happens in real life a team dominates game then a simple error results in a loss. I accept that it may be lag in the game that can cause the error but it all adds to the excitement! like the offside rule in real life if we didnt have lag wer wouldnt have anything to moan about :D

I feel your pain man. Its especially bad when your opponents taunt you when they score a pure BS goal or they win beacause the lag was so bad because their connection is slower than molasses on a cold day.

I, though, am the complete opposite. I play better online than I do off. Guess its just a matter of preference.

Some of you are missing my point, the problem is not in how I play PES, it was the way it was making mistakes or not doing what I wanted, like missing tackles that I had blatantly timed perfectly, or losing control of the ball.
If I had been outplayed by a better opponent, I would take it on the chin, no problem, the better man won, but no, I couldn't win because the controls weren't acting the same as if I was offline, all it takes is one little mistake, which I rarely make myself and the game is screwed, when it's technology letting me down I can't take it, if I myself make a mistake or play badly, then I have nothing to complain about as it's my own fault.
I'm saying that I could have won both games quite easily if it had been as responsive and accurate as if I were playing offline against a mate or the computer.
That is why I didn't enjoy it, if I was shit but the game played brilliantly, then fine, but if the computer is making mistakes I cannot control, I'd rather not play it. For me gameplay, and the quality of a game rest upon the controls. It's fine offline, I have no such problems and never have.

I knew Zyg would know what I mean....
I'm not generally a bad loser, but if it's not my fault I'll spit me dummy out big style.

Actually the more I play online the more I hate it and want to disconnect during games. I am fed up of not being in control of the man I want to use. Anyone can beat me by just getting Henry or Adriano and just dribbling straight down the middle while I am pressing buttons like crazy trying to get someone in position to tackle him

You're absolutely right mate, I for one also started to play online only weeks ago and suffered the same feelings. But I kept playing and as Zyg. said, offline and online are two differend games. I'm now getting used to online and I have to say its getting better and better. Play green connections only but keep on playing untill you're used to it is my advice for you man...
good luck

I fully agree with jMz, the lag really is unbearable sometimes. I wish I could see my stats regarding the number of goals conceeded during the other players half when it lags.

I very rarely let in a goal or play badly in my half, but when it comes down to the other persons connection I just simply can't control my players.

I am still ranked 6000 something and win most of my matches but losing through no fault of your own really is hard to take. I have woken my kids with rants about 'cheating c%&s' and 'lagging wankers' many-a-time!
