come on kiev, it is the fight for 3rd between kiev and ferynord. Man utd and real are gonna be 1 and 2 depending on which one wins tonight, me and del pino are just fighting for a respectable 3rd.

Man Utd got their cup campaign underway with a great win over Real Madrid. The first real opportunity of the game came on 21 mins when Van Nistelrooy missed a great chance to open the scoring, his shot going straight at Casillas. 0-0 Half Time. The first half was pretty even with most of the play in midfield, neither side created many chances.
On 58 mins Raul flicked the ball on towards Ronaldo only for the Brazilian to slide onto it and put it well wide. As the second half wore on Man Utd started to control the game and gave Madrid a scare when Roy Keane fired over from just outside the box. On 83 mins, Ronaldo and Van Nistelrooy played a neat one two and RVN cooly slotted home past the oncoming Iker Casillas. 1-0 Man Utd. A well worked and deserved goal. Real Madrid didn't threaten after the goal and the game finished 1-0 to Man Utd.

FEYENOORD (Del Pino) 0-2 KIEV (mellows)

I'm sure you'd agree, this was a shock result. This was a very scrappy game with most of the action in midfield. Kiev opened the scoring on 16 mins when Melashchenko latched onto to a through ball and tucked it away. Feyenoord came close on 30 mins when Van Persie's free kick shaved the roof of the net. 0-1 HT. Pretty even half.
The second half proved to be very uneventful until deep into injury time when Melashchenko grabbed his and Kiev's second with a fine low drive into the bottom corner from outside the box. This was a very even match which was reflected by the 50-50 possession ratio but not by the result.

JUVENTUS (fordfocus) 3-0 BARCELONA (markony)
Goalscorer(s): Iuliano 15, Trezeguet 65, Del Piero (Pen) 70

Juventus got their cup campaign off to a flyer with an impressive 3-0 win over Barcelona. Juventus created a chance on 14 mins when Cameronesi chipped the ball through to Trezeguet who stuck the ball on the half-volley towards goal but it was turned away brilliantly by Rustu. From the resulting corner, Juve took the lead with a Iuliano header. Luis Enrique had a long range effort saved by Buffon on 18 mins.
Trezeguet scored a brilliant second goal for Juve on 65 mins. He twisted and turned on the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the corner. Great goal! Soon after Quaresma threatened but his shot came back off the post. In the 70th minute Del Piero was brought down by Puyol in the penalty area, Puyol yellow carded, Juve awarded a penalty. Del Piero stepped up and placed the ball in the corner of the net. A great performance by Juve who were by far the better team, the most entertaining match so far.

This was a game of missed chances. Newcastle should have won, there were by far the better team. Shearer missed a hatrick of great chances to score but failed. Overall, a very impressive showing from Newcastle in all areas apart from finishing.

I think I'm going to post more brief reports in future, at least for the remainder of the group games due to it being too time consuming. If anyone would like more detailed info about any of the games then feel free to contact me.
