AC MILAN (Zygalski) 1-1 RANGERS (col_gers)
Milan win 4-2 on pens.
Goalscorers: Mols 53, Shevchenko 80

The 2nd round was opened with a thoroughly entertaining game which saw Milan proceed to the next stage via a penalty shoot-out. Mols gave Rangers the lead on 53 mins when he slid onto a Lovenkrands cross. Milan grabbed a late equaliser, Sheva with a neat turn past the defender after a ball from Inzaghi before he struck the ball low into the net. A great goal. The scores were level at full time meaning extra time. The game continued in it's end to end nature and Milan almost won it when Shevchenko fired narrowly wide. There were no goals in the 30 minutes and the game was to be decided on a penalty shoot-out. Here's what happened:

Shevchenko scored
Mols missed
Inzaghi scored
Arveladze scored
Rivaldo missed
De Boer scored
Rui Costa scored
Arteta missed
Seedorf scored

MAN UTD (jag87) 0-1 DEPORTIVO (Wainy)
Goalscorer: Tristan 52
Bookings: Valeron (Yellow)

Deportivo achieved a suprise victory over Man Utd to book their place in the next round. Tristan came close to giving Depor the lead on 52 mins, his neat lob coming back off the crossbar. Tristan did find the target 11 minutes later, firing home from close range. Scholes came closest for Man Utd in injury time but his flew narrowly over the crossbar from range. This was a very even match, Deportivo just managed to grab the all important goal. Depor join Milan in the next round.

JUVENTUS (fordfocus) 0-0 PSV (CPU)
Juventus win on golden goal rule.

Goalscorer: Nedved 105

Juventus went through to the next stage after a dramatic golden goal. The first 90 minutes of football saw both teams play evenly and a draw was a fair reflection. Nedved got the all important golden goal in stoppage time of the first half of extra time. He just managed to stay onside and latch onto a Cameronesi through ball before cooly slipping the ball past the keeper.

AC MILAN (Zygalski) 0-1 DEPORTIVO (Wainy)
Goalscorer: Tristan 37
Bookings: Tristan (Yellow)

Deportivo got their second group campaign off to a flyer with a 1-0 victory over Milan. It was in-form man Diego Tristan who got their goal on 37 mins, heading home a cross. This was a game in which Milan dominated and really should have scored. They could have and probably should have put several past their opponents. This was reflected by the fact that Milan had 3 times the number of shots Depor did. However, it was Tristan's first half header which proved decisive.

PARMA (CPU) 0-0 REAL MADRID (Paul B)
Bookings: Zidane (Yellow), Pavon (Red)

The first match in group 2 ended in a goalless draw. Madrid suffered an immediate setback when Pavon was sent off for a chalenge on Morfeo after just 2 minutes. Morfeo put the resulting free kick over the bar. Real Madrid were on the back foot for the remainder (majority) of the game and had to shut out intensive Parma pressure. Madrid will be glad with a point given the circumstances.
