Started the game with WE United, renamed Hornsey City (my local area, plus "City" as you can have it as a Callname). Gave them a nice black and white Adidas home kit and a stunning blue and navy Adidas away kit.
First two games of the season have been played - both times I took the lead within 2 minutes.
First a header from
Ostwaut, followed up by a goal from
Miranda, gave me a 2-0 lead early on against Monaco. The French side, favourites for promotion, pulled one back through Morientes after an hour, which set up a tense last half-hour, but I held on to record a first win of the season, "and at the first time of asking." According to Mr Brooking.

2-1 AS Monaco
The second game of the season pitted my minnows against promotion candidates Racing Club de Lens - recently back from their summer holidays in Barbados. A strike-force of Moreira and Nigerian international John Utaka seemed to strong for Hornsey, but then the match kicked off.
With one minute and 51 seconds on the clock,
Castello was in for his first of the season, pouncing on a rebound after Miranda had two efforts double-saved by the Itandje, Lens' international goalkeeper.
Then, on the stroke of half-time, Thomert grabbed one back for the French side, meaning a dejected-looking Hornsey side went in 1-1 at half-time, in a game they should have killed off a long time ago.
Cue the second half. A beautiful team move, saw
Ximenez lay the ball off first-time on the half-volley to
Huygens, who then turned Bouba Diop inside-out, and played a reverse-pass to
Castello, cutting in from the left. The Brazilian's first touch was an excellent one, getting him clear of the last man, with only the 'keeper to beat. A well-taken volley into the top near corner gave Hornsey a 2-1 lead, and from there I never looked back. A subsequent own-goal, and a last-minute fourth goal from
Ostwaut (his second of the season) saw me extend my winning streak to two matches, with a goal difference of 6-2.
Hornsey City
4-1 Racing Club de Lens
The Frenchies were not happy.
