Anyone knows how the distribution of experience works in the Master League?

In my first season, I had the same four players gain experience, and all the others lower their stats.
New season, other three players are getting up, all the others down.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Adu or Ronaldinho are not getting up this season. Anyone can explain player XP and the Master League?
