Im trying to connect wireless to my PS3 for PES 2008 using my Sky wireless broadband. However even though it finds the Sky Wireless and the automatic set up seems ok once enterring the WAP key, when I click test connection a message comes up saying Key Information Exchange Timed Out, can anyone help??

How far is the PS from the router? If it's the same one i've got, then over 15/20 feet, or a decent wall can cause it to fail.

If poss, try to stay hardwired. Works a charm.

What's the point? I barely have time to play the 360 let alone the 360 and a PS3.

Although I suppose it would be cool.

Will you though? I've heard about people that haven't received their free console months after signing up.
Yup. My missus had a Wii as part of hers, but as they were out of stock they sent her £180 for her to buy herself one.

Anyway, if someone doesn't surely they're in breach of the contract?

Well it's with Dial a Phone, the same company who my missus used, and she had no problems whatsoever. It's mean to be here within a month, and if it isn't and I suspect I've been shafted I cancel the Direct Debits and flog the phone.

I'm sure I'll be fine.

As far as I know, any company that offers such a thing as a "free PS3" must provide a PS3 to the customer as it is part of the Terms and Conditions of the offer. If they don't then this is clearly a breach of the contract and the customer then has the option of cancelling the contract.

It does not matter if the company who's offering the free PS3 says "subject to status and credit history". They still have to give the PS3 but only if the customer decides to sign up for their offer and commit themselves to the company for the duration of the contract.

If the customer can't pay all the subscription fees before the contract end date, then the company offering the free PS3 can demand that you send it back to them. If you don't at this point, then the company are within their rights to call in Debt Collectors to re-collect the PS3.

This is why we're seeing more and more companies coming out with these sort of offers. And also, people seem to forget that these "free PS3" offers only come on contracts that last betwen 18-24 months. That's a long time to be paying a subscription fee if you ask me.

If I'm paying the same amount per month, but get a free PS3 out of it, where's the harm in an 18 month contract? I was hardly itching to upgrade my current one after 12 months.

Well I got it for £15 with my phone contract. Is still in wrapper, so I could claw back the £15 if needed, just wanted to know if it's worth keeping?

You don't actually get the PS3 for free though despite what these companies coming out with these offers are saying.

Have you not noticed that there are so many other Pay Monthly Mobile Phone contract offers around that are available at a fraction or half the price of the contract offer with the "free PS3"? I know that the cheaper contract offers are only 12 months but the total price you end up paying is significantly less then you would pay if you were on the 18-24 month "free PS3" contract offer.

That's where they make their money.

In effect, what you're actually doing is you're paying for 2 services. The PS3 is included as part of the deal as a "Hire Purchase" item much like how it works with buying Cars on Hire Purchase. Like I said earlier, if later on down the line, you couldn't pay the subscription fee for the whole of the 18 or 24 month contract then the PS3 would be re-claimed by the company who gave it to you and it becomes their asset.

Therefore, it is not free. In my opinion, I'd say it's a gift for paying for and successfully completing the contract. This is why I think these offers are misleading. In general, these offers are good for the average consumer for obvious reasons but they are very misleading.

Well it works out that I get the phone for "free" and pay £74.99 for the PS3.

Anyway, I don't think I'm going to struggle paying my phonebill ;)

Most people won't struggle to pay the monthly bill for an 18 or 24 month contract.

But the point I was trying to make is that these companies coming out with these offers still gain something out of it at the end of the day. Especially if the PS3 is re-claimed. If it's re-claimed, then it shows up on the company's end of year accounts as a tangible asset. It's a tangible asset because the PS3 will still have re-sale value even if it has been re-claimed. They will make a profit on it anyway because it was hired until it had been re-claimed.

But the customer loses out in this situation. The company making this offer will always say "subject to credit check" but in reality, they will give out the PS3 to anyone even if you have a bad credit history.

This is why I think these offers are high risk and very misleading. In my opinion, you should only take up a free PS3 offer if you can afford to pay the entire 18 or 24 month contract in 1 payment. If you can't afford to pay the entire 18 or 24 month contract in one go, then I would not recommend taking up the offer because that's just asking for trouble.

That goes for everyone in this thread who's thinking about taking up a free PS3 offer. ;)

Actually, it'll most likely show as STOCK. They sell these items on a regular basis, therefore it is trade rather than profit/loss on disposal of asset.

Trust me, I'm an accountant ;)

I can see where you're coming from, but from my point of view I'm in a win win situation. I'm getting a brand new phone, paying the same amount I would if I stayed with my old contract. Difference being is I got a PS3 for £74.99 rather than £299.99 or whatever they are now.

But like you said for every few who can afford to pay their bills there is one that can't, and that is where they make their money.
