I haven't played a single next gen game.

My theory is that I'm not missing out on all that much until the likes of GTA, the next PES, MGS and the like are released.

I'm also guessing that Sony are going to freeze the price until some big games come out (read: GTA) before bringing it down to the land of acceptable.

I'm pretty sure that we're still paying more after price drops than the Americans did at release.

OH WELL

CoD4 online is hilarious at the moment! Loads of new PS3 users to kill, my kill average was 30+ every game thanks to them.

Isn't GTA4 supposed to come out in April 2008? If so, then I cannot see Sony dropping the price of the PS3 at that time.

My guess is that the next price drop will come around October/November 2008 just in time for the Christmas rush.

And yes, you are right in assuming that we are paying a lot more for a PS3 in this country then the Americans and the Japanese. But, this is how it is in this country. Everything is more expensive over here - all ranging from Cars and Houses to Home Appliances. You can't really blame Sony for inflating the price of the PS3 when a lot of other companies have been ripping us off for many many years.

Oh ah it's the same with the new iPod's.

There's a 8GB and a 16GB model out now and we are paying more for the 8GB than the Americans are for the 16GB.

But yeah my pennies are staying in my pocket until there's a greater library of games and the kinks have been worked out.

And I know we live in a premium country and the like but computer games are very easy to compare as you've really only got Europe, north America and Asia. What's irksome is that the pattern is Europe waiting months longer whilst paying more and sometimes getting less (i.e The PS3 having minimal backwards compatability and no memory card slots)

Americans were upset that they were paying $599 for the PS3 at release. Well if we were to get a few games and an extra controller at release here then it would have cost more than $1,000.

Getting shafted every single time just takes the piss, especially when you can go on amazon.com, find the price of a PS3 and put it into a converter in minutes.

I dunno I guess I just don't like seeing large discrepancies for the same product and having companies like Sony actively stop consumers from importing on the cheap.

oh well

If you think prices are too high in the UK you're wrong. Here, when the ps3 was first launched, it cost about 650 pounds without extra games or an extra controller.

Well I'm not 100% familiar with the gaaming scene in Egypt but are systems/games shifting as well as they are elsewhere in the world?

Also what's it like for copied games and the like? Doing my best not to generalise here, but I remember someone from around Egypt saying that games are easily available on the streets for pretty much fuck all.

I could've got a 80gb from China for R2000. (roughly £150) but it would have been ntsc format for the DVD and ps2 games, also I would have been pretty screwed if anything were to go wrong with it. A friend of mine did go for it though and he seems content.

I do know what you mean.

But it is slightly different for Game Consoles though. You have to bear in mind that Game Consoles are initially manufactured for use with NTSC hardware and in countries that transmit the NTSC electronic sginals.

So obviously, it will take a lot of manpower to manufacture all of the components in an NTSC Game Console so that they can process PAL electronic signals instead. Companies like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all basically need to build a new system for Europe. This will inevitably lead to higher costs and thus a higher retail price than in the US and Japanese territories (which use the NTSC signal).

I'm not condoning the over-inflation of prices (in general) in this country and in Europe but I just believe that it is harder for companies to manufacture an electronics product for this region. This is why Sony decided to release the PS3 first in the US and Japan - because it was easier for them.

Obviously, I can't condone the actions of Sony where they have deliberately stopped people from importing PS3s on the cheap - Sony are just trying to protect their investment, which company doesn't want to protect their investment? But this sort of thing is always going to happen because of the PAL limitation I just described above and because of the economic stability of this country.

It's not the fact that there's a price difference that annoys me, it's the scale of the difference.

For the 40GB PS3 we are paying 50% more than in the US. Regionalising a console should not amout to half of it's overall value, the numbers don't add up, especially when you take into account that we get a PS3 without the emotion engine (I think) chip, ruling out backwards compatability.

At the end of the day, we are paying so much more for an inferior product which gets on my tits.

Sony have fluffed it a bit with the PS3 so hopefully there will be a large price drop to go along with the release of a big title.

I have an internet connection via a wireless router and would like to know if there is a site with all the PS3 online compatible games and what ports you need to open so you can play online on this particular game.

I have CoD4, FIFA 08, Fall of Man and Formula1. Obviously I want the required ports for these games to be able to play online.

But for future, I would also like to know most of the other online-compatible games in case I want to buy a game in the future.

Please help me......
