I got a question for those here who have got the 40 Gb PS3.

Has anyone here actually managed to play a PS2 game (original, import or backup) on a 40 Gb PS3?

I know they're not supposed to play them but I heard a rumour about the possibility of PS2 games being played on a 40 Gb PS3 by installing an Emulator on the Hard Drive.

Anyone wanna shed any light on this?

My friend has a 40GB and I didnt think much of this at the time, but when I was round his one day he was playing Gran Turismo 4. You saying this just now has reminded me of that - and I dont know how the hell he managed to play it. Im pretty sure they are not backwards compatible, there is obviously some way to get around this.

dno tbh.

Yeah that was the idea that I got. The 40 GB PS3 is still compatible with PS2 games as the GPU is suitable for playing PS1 and PS3 games.

The only thing thats missing from the 40 GB PS3 in terms of playing PS2 games is the fact that it doesn't have a PS2 boot chip so that the console can realise when you've got a PS2 game in the drive.

Like I said in my earlier post, I think it just requires some kind of homebrew software on the hard drive (emulator perhaps?) or a third party firmware to play PS2 games on the 40 GB PS3.

Can you do me a favour please and ask your friend exactly how did he manage to play Gran Turismo 4 on his 40 GB PS3?

I'm only asking because it looks like there is going to be an 80 GB PS3 coming out in Europe soon and apparently it won't have PS2 backwards compatability.

This will probably mean that the 40 GB PS3 will be discontinued but not before a price drop in order to get rid of the old stock.

Im not sure if this has been covered already (most likely has, so Im sorry about that). Anybody know why I can't connect to the internet in the network settings. It keeps saying there was a DNS error when trying to connect to the server. I have looked up my DNS number and put in all the codes etc but it won't work at all

Edit: nevermind, it eventually just started working

Is it possible to buy stuff from the US store? And can it done simply with my Visa like I would on the EU store?

VidZone

Europe is getting a wicked cool service to use early next year. Entitled VidZones, this new service, available in 23 European countries, including Australia and New Zealand, will allow PS3 fans to access an unlimited amount of streaming music videos on their PS3 for the incredible price of: free. You'll be able to create custom playlists and yes, you'll be able to stream it on your PSP via Remote Play. This will operate separately from the current PS3 Video Store.

In addition, users of VidZone will be able to download music videos and ringtones directly to their cell phones ... all for a nominal charge, of course. With this and PlayTV, the multimedia features of the European PS3 is far outclassing those of their (now jealous) neighbors.

Wireless keypad attachment revealed for PS3

A new peripheral for the PS3 has just been announced at Leipzig. A wireless keypad is similar to Xbox 360's current chatpad, but it will connect to the controller through the top USB port. The chatpad will also enable "touchpad mode for mouse input." We'll have more details once we get our hands-on.

I'm sure there is one out already but it's not from Sony.

I've never bothered getting a BlueTooth keyboard for sending messages to people in my friends list; I've coped with the controller.

But that looks awesome :D

Since when has Australia or New Zealand been included in Europe? I can see what they are trying to say though.. Anyway, aside from that sounds good.
