There's a new firmware released. I started downloading at 12 noon and 4 hours later, I'm still at 30%. I give up. I'll download it again tonight.

Downloading 2.70 now. Some pretty neat features. I hardly use though haha. I just play the games

Took me around 15-20 minutes too.

Seems like a decent update. Very decent, in fact. PS3 badly needed instant messaging, and now it has it. Lovely.

The latest update downloaded in about 10-15 minutes for me.

And I concur, it's about bloody time that the PS3 brought instant messaging to the party.

Yeah, same 'ere.

They'd have to make a Sony messager then though? Shame we can't have Windows Live Messenger but ah well...

Took about 15 minutes for me.

I like the in-game instant messaging, it's a nice addition. So too is the music volume neutraliser, I hate it when one song is extrememly loud in game, and then the next is too quiet to even hear - so thank god they sorted it.

I just noticed that when you download a patch, it tells you how many more minutes it will take to finish downloading. Nice addition.

I've just bought World Snooker Championship 2009, can't wait to give this a go.

Meanwhile, I'm concerned because my controller 2 no longer works. When I plug it in to charge and then press the PS button, it turns on then and assigns to 2. But when I take it which I have to do, it won't turn on.

I did take it to a mate's house about a week ago and tried it there, and it didn't work there either.

How do I sort this? Please don't tell me I gotta do a System Restore

Has this happened to anyone else? My controller 1 works normally, just what if a mate comes over and wants to play 2-player with me?

Battery is possibly dying, whenever you don't use it do you charge it? Dont quote me on this but I heard somewhere that if you keep charging your controller when your not using it or when it still has a fair bit of battery time left, it can shorten its life. Best to only charge it when it tells you.

Hmmmmm. I don't charge it that often, I was wondering whether it's not working properly anymore because I took it to a mate's and turned it on there? Or the Bluetooth may've died in there?

Connecting it up to another PS3 is fine, it cant harm it. So I dont know to be honest. Best just to search around google and see what you can find on the matter.

This happened to me a while ago.

My controller stopped working. So I started reading about it, I ended up noticing that it did not charge anymore. The process for learning that included opening the controller and changing the battery. At the end I made it retro (wired instead of wireless). A regular USB cable carries a 5 volts (I believe is volts, the case is that the amount of energy is the correct one) charge which is enough to make your controller work. I connected the USB cable directly as the source for energy and it worked fine.

While reading to understand the problem I came about the information for the battery, it is supposedly not affected by the amount of times you recharge it because it has no memory. According to what I read, technology has gone far enough for batteries in order to make it so that you don’t need to completely deplete the charge. Can’t remember the make of the PS3 controller battery but I do remember that it was one of those batteries without memory.

As for the connecting your controller to another playstation I believe there should be no problem at all. I own 6 controllers and they are constantly being randomly used on 3 different playstations.
