Backwards compatibility is back ... sort of! SCEA has announced that the PlayStation 2 God of War games will be coming to PlayStation 3 on a single, HD-enhanced Blu-ray disc. Previously hinted at in a consumer survey, the God of War Collection will feature "reworked" versions of both games, running at 60 frames per second and 720p resolution. The port is being handled by Bluepoint Games, the team behind the PSN-exclusive shooter, Blast Factor. Hopefully, the games will be more than simply upscaled, giving original PS3 owners a reason to partake in the double dip. Update: And yes, it will have Trophies.

The Blu-ray collection will be available this "holiday season," and will cost $39.99 -- the same price as buying both of the games on PS2.

That's quite frankly shite. Reworking old titles and then shelving at a full new title RRP just smacks of a money grabbing cash cow. Surely they should be on PSN? No packaging or disks would keep the price to a more reasonable level...

1st impressions, I'm not liking the new XMB :/

The msg & friends icons at top are good but I don't like the massive grey boxes all my friends are in, should've just sticked with how it was tbh.

I'm glad the clock etc has been fixed but not sure myself about the friends display...

anyway, incase anyone is interested...

I popped into my local Gamestation today & if you trade in a 40GB PS3 you only have to pay £130 for the new 120GB Slim PS3...so basically you're trade-in value for 40GB is £120.

That Afrika one is free on Japanese PSN, but other animated ones cost money. :/

I could get my PS3 sorted for 50 quid it's 40gb, do you think it's possible i could fix it to then get it sold at Gamestation. I'm liking my new Slim, very nice :)

I always read you should keep your PS3 flat anyway. It has one fan area at the back, it doesn't make a sound, AMAZZZING!

Agree with other on the grey friends list boxes. Very cheap looking. Like the sparkles though, very 90's...

Edit: Just noticed a TV option on the XMB, with BBC iPlayer as a working option!!!

Don't recall that in the pre download blurb :unsure:

yea the tv option is great, I hope they can add more channels though.

It's a nice feature I watched an episode of Top Gear the other day, no lag no slow buffering. PERFECT. Then I listened to Westwood on radio 1 as well which was also no buffering.
