I had mine fixed by Total Console Repair. It was sent to them on the Monday and delivered back to me on the Friday, and I haven't had a problem since.

It's still under warranty though, so it didn't cost me anything. Depending on the problem, it's likely to cost in the region of £80-£150 for the fix.

Okay, I'm gonna sound a bit of a nonce here but I registered on the Heavy Rain website and it gives you a code for PS Home. Only problem is I have absolutely no fucking idea how to redeem codes in this shit and it is pissing me off.

Playstation Network tab of XMB > Account Management > Redeem Codes.

I notice that there's a slight difference in my controllers.

This is the one that I bought late last year.

And, this is the one that I bought in 2008

Anyone got an address I can write to Sony to complain about their pathetic excuse for customer support?

Basically I downloaded and attempted to install the 3.30 update and it keeps crashing at 68%, tries again, fails again, and then tells me to contact Sony with the error code of 8001050F.

I called Sony, explained the problem and as I am outside of my warranty that I will have to pay £131 for it to be repaired. ARE THEY HAVING A FUCKING LAUGH? I was given one possible excuse that the firmware may not have downloaded properly which has caused the install to fail. I cannot get to my homepage and everytime I turn the PS3 on it tries to install the update again.

Please can someone tell me why I have to fork out £131 for Sony to fix a problem that is their own doing? If I had not installed an update that they force you to do if you wish to use your PS3 online I would not have this problem; so is that the fault of mine? No.

Xbox 360 may suffer the RRoD several times in its lifetime, but at least MS has the courtesy of fixing machines outside the warranty, as they know it's a cockup on their part.

This was one update you were warned NOT to do via USB due to the problems people were having (I know you haven't, I'd just suggest not doing so even if you did still have the option).

You might find an answer on the wider internet due to the number of people in the same situation as you Ziss.

I looked before I rang the useless tossers; people complain they have the problem but there's no solution, other than to pay the rip off price they charge.

Doubt there is a quick fix as the PS3 is pretty much unresponsive (word?).

Good news for UK PS3 owners. Blinkbox, a provider of online streaming movies and TV shows, has created a new PS3-friendly version of its website. Navigating to blinkbox.com in the PS3 internet browser will launch a specially formatted site, reminiscent of PS3-optimized versions of YouTube and BBC iPlayer. Based on a few videos we tested, we'd say the site is rather easy to navigate with the DualShock controller, and the video playback runs smoothly.

Programming available for non-UK residents is rather limited with James Earl Jones' Blood Tide as one of the few free options available for US residents. UK residents, however, can enjoy free TV series and movies, in addition to paid rentals, starting at £0.39 for a TV show and £0.99 for a movie.

It's an interesting alternative to Sony's own PlayStation Store video content, especially for those that want to instantly watch video, instead of waiting on lengthy downloads through PSN.

I'll have to check this out. :)

Any chance Sony will update the list of avatars we have to choose from? getting tired of them all

I think we should be able to take our own, from either USB or Internet Browser.

What you guys reckon?

Right, so i'm having a bit of trouble.

I'm playing a game (any game it would seem) and about 20 minutes in, the fan starts slowing down, it gets quieter and quieter, eventually goes whisper quiet, and after about 30 seconds I get the message that tells me that the system is getting too hot and I should turn it off real quick.
Then all i'm left with is a flashing red light.

Any idea whether its fan failure or theres a bigger issue or what??
