this is driving me crazy

every now and then i do something not sure what but it results in me having a triangle or square next to the players name at the bottom off the screen

its for the player strategies(i think)

its in the formation screen somewhere u can assign strategies to the controller using the l2 and O button for example,like counter attack.

its nothing to worry about

but i always use semi-auto cos then u don't haved to worry about changing stratgies in-game.

yeah its for the strategies. You can set stuff like CB Overlap, Offside Trap, Counter Attack and other strategies like that.

You assign them to different buttons so if you assigned Offside Trap to the O button. When you press L2 and Circle you're defenders will rush forward to play the offside trap.

i use mainly the counter attack,zone press,centre attcack and left side attack.

I used to use it alot in Pro Evo 2 and WE6:FE. I used Opposite Side Attack mostly so the left back would rush forward when im on the right wing. It doesn't work as well in PES3/WE7 i've noticed

I'm mainly using press up and counter attack, i think there usefull especially when you've been scored.

so how/where do you assign these

You've to check formation - strategy - manual into the formation menu, then you can select 4 strategies that you can activate while playing using L2+ the button assigned. For example CIRCLE = Press up, SQUARE = Counter Attack, etc.
