I'm playing with all the assists turned off or set to 0 accept for auto-clearing but my players frequently pass without me pushing any buttons. This usually occurs right after one of my players receives a through-pass. He'll tap the ball away in some random direction after receiving the pass. This of course completely ruins the scoring chance for me and is especially frustrating since actually completing a through-pass in this game is so rare in the first place.

Does anybody else experience this? All I can think of is that maybe I don't release the pass button quick enough so that when it switches the cursor to the player receiving the pass, the game thinks I want that player to pass too. Sometimes though this happens well after I have received the pass which makes me doubt this is the case. This among other things is really a game killer for me since I can handle losing when it is my fault but I can't take it when it is because my players are going things I don't make them do or not doing things I have commanded them to do.

It could be that when you pass, you accidentally press it again so it automatically passes or it could be that the player bursts with pace so it looks like a pass

It could also be that your controller has malfunctioned

Those things never happened to me, lol.

Maybe Abu97 is right about you controller. It prolly has some mal function.

Well I switched controllers and after a couple games it happened again. You mean this doesn't happen to anyone else. I'll be running to catch up to the ball and all of a sudden there is a little blue gauge under my player and when he gets to the ball he taps it away from himself and I'll start controlling another player. Sometimes my player will even slide. I thought when it stopped initially after switching controllers that that was it but it just happened to me in my last game again.

Unless there is some combination of left stick and the R1 and R2 buttons that cause passes, I don't know what I'm doing to do this. Thanks for your help. I must be doing something I don't even realize.

You're probably clicking the R3 button, which correct me if I'm wrong, is the same as the pass button.

r3 is to control another player but when i press it, the player starts to do step overs then when it passes the ball, it rolls 1m away from him.
This could be your problem

pes 2011 is horrible. Trust me superpav, refs will be a nightmare and you will wish you hadn't bought the piece of crap

Yeah it gets boring after a month playing it because it's so damn easy. I can already feel that i will struggle for a long time with 2012 which is a great thing.

PES 2011 was an addictive lump of shit which you just found yourself playing again eventhough you said you won't. It's like an illusion and I don't like the fact that it's too easy, it's just too basic for 2011 and had no responsiveness and 0 percent fluid

That is similar to what I see although I haven't seen a step over yet. I don't use the right stick for anything though so it's hard to believe that's it. It did cross my mind though and I looked for a way to disable the "control another player" feature but I don't think I can.

So you prefer one of the most buggy and overall broken PES games ever, to one of the most challenging and captivating?
Makes sense.

You probably played the PS3 version, or the straight out of the box version of PES 2012, right?
And you say you can't even shoot properly.
I've been enjoying shooting 2x more than I enjoyed it in PES 2011.
Oh... wait a minute: I didn't even enjoy it in PES 2011.

@superpav, if you prefer pes 11, then it's ok, it's your opinion, but to say that in pes 11 the ref DOES NOT BLOW HIS WHISTLE every second compared to pes 12 is just a lie because in pes 12, the amount of fouls whistled by the ref got reduced significantly.

Well, if it's normal for a person to prefer a Fiat Uno (with engine problems), over a Toyota RunX (with some whacky rimz), then I agree:
preferring PES 2011 is OK!
