The thing that worries me is, even if PES is excellent this year, it'll remain in FIFA's shadow when it shouldn't. PES was the reason FIFA pulled their socks up and for whatever reason, it happened to be at a time when PES' development team went into a collective slump.

My big fear is that FIFA appears to have been elevated to the same status as Gran Turismo for example, whereby obvious flaws are ignored because of reputation. With GT, it's always been the rigid AI who don't do anything to stop you passing and with FIFA it's been the AI-scripted goals. Both are serious flaws that ruin the game for me, but points that are generally glossed over.

yh , but there are many games which dont always stay on top , i mean COD franchise has had some great competition , battflied ,killzone ect .

However from what ive read so far , from all previews , yes all positive . some have said that fifa fans might change. Fifa however ... i gotta a funny feeling that they may not impress that much this year.

^Yeah, but some fanboys are hard to convince (of both pes and fifa). COD MW2 for example. As broken as it is, many fanboys voted it as the best shooter. That's stupid.
But I see your point, because after all, battlefield bad company 2 changed that slightly because there are many players playing it.

Anyway I am really glad after those positive previews. Unlike last year, this year there hasn't been 1 completely negative. Let's all wait now. :)

Although I prefer Fifa because of the all manual settings, the AI scripting in Fifa is one of the most embarrassing things i have ever seen in football games and was completely ignored by reviewers in fifa 10. I want to come back to pes so hopefully the new manual options will take it up a level. From the videos i think there is still a lot of work to be done.

I think fifa is just the bigger name and some people won't give pes a chance.

il have to disagree with that m8 . During the PS2 days PES was on top , no doubt i saw so many people playing it and talking about it . Fifa was never mentioned. Pes has had the upper hand , and alot of people were fans of it . Its fifa which has sufferd on ps2 and ps1.Appealing to peopl who wanted liscenses and werent bothered abotu gameplay , apart from that IT was PES. i rememer adverts, promotions when pes 2 came out and pes3 . Only now FIFA has managed to pick up some of these fans , and thats largely due to konamis 3 year drop.

This year seems to be going well for PES so far, i mean its fot positivity. listen to the podcast on WENB .

alot of Former PES fans are also liking it . However PES wont be above FIFA this year, FIFAS in a good place.
But i think PES will do well , with a lot of people. I for one , am loving everything i hear from the reports .

and about the fanboys. Most of these so called fanboys are former PES fans who are frustrated at 3 years despair. So for personal comfort and for recognition from FIFA fans , they will say alot of bullshit when its not needed to make them look like solid fifa fans. Its physcological, humans have a tendancy to be part of a group or to feel wanted and secure . Same with video games. And lot of these fanboys are doing this . Bet you if PES picked up the majority .... most of them would change their opinion. Only a small number of hardcore fans wont.

Its usually the narrow minded and insecure ones who will bullshit and talk crap .The open minded ones will be open to anything , so they will play FIFA cuz they think its better , or and give a pes a try with a fiar unbiased opinion.

Exactly right. Nail on the head there! Also because they have premier league licensed and people dont want to play with fake kits- but they do not know about the awesome edit mode :)

I don't want to continue the FIFA / PES debate, but for the PES to FIFA converts, it hasn't been about the bigger name at all, it's always been about gameplay preferences. I'd say the fans FIFA have picked up recently were more PES fans like myself as opposed to new people to gaming.

One fact is that there are lots of PES fans in my shoes, I've been giving PES a chance since 08, and have pretty much said 'this is the last one I buy if I don't like it' but have ended up buying 08, 09, and 10 regardless because I always think 'maybe this time it has returned to form'.

It's hard to turn my back on this series, so much of my childhood have been spent on these games. I hope PES11 is the return of the king, or at least a promising claim on the throne.

if fifa world cup is anything to go by for the new fifa 11 then dream on im a pes player for sure but love any other type of games in the same genre so as i walked into HMV i played against a spanish boy who obviously chose spain i chose turkey as im half turkish my impressions were this: reaction times were about 70 times slower than pes it took almost 5 seconds before a player did what i wanted them to, however the passing mechanism was fantastic, the ball movement i wasnt so impressed, the shooting was atrocious, goalkeeping wasnt bad but the player running? what the hell it was like he was tiptoeing on the grass i couldnt see no shift in movement from walking to running! so my conclusion is that fifa is still rubbish but is something i could get used to however i dont feel i could pay the price asked for it as it doesnt reflect on what i call fun enjoyable unpredictable football pes is sometimes repetitive but the gameplay is enjoyable and as for the new pes introducing the new gauge system i think they are finally onto a winner and the body on body struggle looks to finally add some realism to the game that is ridiculed by shirt pulling which is ineffective and the tackling by the AI which seems to blind the referee..
