Poor defense in ML

I would bet there is a thread for this somewhere but looking through 100+ pages is too time consuming.

So I would like to know if playing in the ML your defense and team AI swallows the stupid pill once you take the lead in a game.

I can't tell you how many times I have taken the lead and 30 seconds later they score an equalizer. Many of my games end 2-2 or 3-2 if I score late. And while I have the lead the pressure from the other team is insane. I know they become more aggresive to try and score but why do my players become pathetic?

Up until I score the go ahead goal team play is pretty good. Decent passing, back line does a good job holding for the most part. But when I score every loose ball goes to the opponents, every pass gets through my back line whether it be a short pass, through pass, or lob pass.

I play on Pro level and started with Seattle FC as there are a couple decent players there and nothing to give me an overwhelming advantage.

Just wanted to vent some. Anyone else notice this at all?

if you play in a league and weaker teams or seeded teams need sufficient points to fulfill their goals, they will struggle hard. If the pressure of your opponents get too tight and high, and you couldn't manage to strike 3,4 goals more so that they take an ease, SIMPLY CHANGE YOUR FORMATION TO DEFENSIVE and play COUNTER. Once again, play low like you have no intention to attack at all on your own field, after 'bout 10 passes between GoalKeeper and defenders they would raise higher to your field, all of the sudden manage to score quickly a goal, and continue to do so for some more goals, until they finally give up.
There's no use to keep one formation through out the season, even within a match (at some period of the season), if they set 9 players in front of the goal, don't waste your time to play offensive, unless your attacking positions are overall dominant!

Have fun and i hope it help !!!

PES2009 AI gives your team a hefty response penalty as soon as you take the lead and opponent gets superfast, supersmart and supertechnical, even if you play Brazil vs. Quatar.

When Quatar is AI controlled they will be able to dominate a game against you (playing as Brazil)
A good remedy is to put team strategy on semi auto, and control Strategy A yourself. Make it a very defensive version of the formation you choose to play and be very careful after taking the lead, even against crappy opposition.

well, sometime i just let them attack if direct 1-1 challenge with AI is impossible, they often come up the field on the 2 flanks and try to play long ball into the box, which could be easily cleared and gained back possession. So let them take control, defend the front and lure/let them play from flank/conner, after that, the ball is all yours.

but there's a tiny trick that may help, i wouldnt let them freely attack, after they kick off make your strikers close up and gain back immediately possession and manage to score for more goals. I usally score many, i mean bunch of goals like that (like 4,5 goals within 15 min. and so on) each goal can push up your team's mentality. Keep in mind: you are in control, not AI opponents, cause your own mentality plays the same important role. So i actually got problem with them AI maximal in 5,6 matches through out the season, but even those, 5, 6 goals is still doable

Sometimes i hold the r2 button (makes the player in control sort of screening the ball) Instead of just boozing forward and pressuring it can be useful to await sometimes. Also it may not always work to hold the x button hoping for your player to get the ball. Just run after the player in control of the ball, and time your tackle-moment. And my advice: don't overdo the sliding tackles. It just frustrates you when you don't hit the ball perfectly. Cheers

I have found the oppositon attack both tedius and uninventive! 20 games into the season and i have conceded 5 goals! I know WE has an extra difficulty ''superstar'' I need it!
