Will shopto, play.com etc ship out extra early to avoid this or are we just gonna have to wait even longer?

if you add £1.99 to your shop.to order they will send it out using UKmail i think thus avoiding royal mail altogether thats your best bet

I changed to UKmail on Shopto last night after hearing the strike dates. Fingers crossed UKmail don't go on strike now!!

Probably best to email Shopto direct and ask them mate. As it's a courier service I can't see UKmail delivering outside of the UK but it's prob worth asking about?
