I always use friendlies to trade away players that I don't want and then try my new ones still in the transfer season. You can have a couple of games and although they are not at their best you can judge if its them that you want. So you have time to trade them away again before you finish with transfers.
So its like giving them a trial and if you don't get rid then atleast you probably have someone better than before.
So many times I bought players with good ratings that just don't play well for me or fit into my system well. Like Riquelme is lazy and Morfeo just never does anything upfront.
