Pro Evo R.I.P???

Pro Evo had always been my Favourite game series until PES6 was released. It wasn’t a bad game but then still not as good as PRO EVO 5 on the PS2 which in my opinion was the best ever!
PES6 was the first released on a “next gen” console, so I forgave Konami and hoped that PES 2008 would be the one to look to – this giving KONAMI enough time to get used to developing for the new era..
Normally with a new release of Pro EVO after a couple of weeks you would get used to the tweaks, changes and then you could feel and see the “Evolution”.
Either way you would always feel and see the improvement from the first handful of matches.
I bought PRO EVO 8 on release and after playing a few games I felt so disappointed – they had broken the game I once so dearly loved. I continued to play it hoping that I would find the “Evolution” and ended up flogging it after about 4-5 months.
Now -
After 4 hours of downloading PRO EVO 2009 (XBOX LIVE) and playing a handful of games – I have had that sinking feeling once again!! Although an improvement on the last (In some Areas) it’s a let down in others most noticeably the Ball physics and player movement.
This has now resorted me to buying a copy of PRO EVO 5 again just to remind me of how good the game used to play and unless 2009 improves much on the demo I for one will not be wasting my money on it!
Why the hell do they not just use the match engine from 5 and give it next gen graphics! The gameplay and ball physics have taken a huge step back on the next gen and if its “not broke then don’t fix it”.
I have just downloaded Fifa 2009 and I gotta say that it plays much more responsive than previous instalments and would go as far to say that it is better than this years Pro Evo demo.

I really hope that they sort PES out before the 17th Oct or I may end up having to buy Fifa or perhaps updating Pro Evo 5 with 2009 kits/transfers etc which isn’t a bad idea!

I think that the best ‘Pro Evo’ days may well be behind us and it seems like another year of empty promises from Konami!

I feel that the series hit its peak at PES5, and other than the graphics the game has continued to go downhill from there!!!

Is this the end???

no its not the end but i am concerned with the way the game is moving to a more arcadey style but i am confident 09 will bring the pes series back to life. 2008 went against everything that pro was about and this has to be put right

@ OP.

What the hell are you talking the end!!!!!

This is only the beginning, PES 2009 will play like the old games of the series, and this is only the prelude of what's to come, for 2010 PES will have a engine, they have been working since the release on PES 2008, so that means they have one year of work and one more year to finish the game.

Will the new engine be a hit, well, my money is on Konami, they have showed us that they know how to make some pretty good games, and innovation is the key, and konami knows how to do that.

I think it's far from the end, the Next Gen era is just getting started.

Personally, I think Konami should look at the Ball Physics, Pace, and Passing from PES5 -and- also take a look at the Attacking AI, Attacking Play, and Fluidness of PES6.

After they have done that, they should Introduce a Next Gen System of Stats and Special Abilities.

That should do the job I think, Konami knows How to work with Stats -and- they should work on a New Engine that CAN handle a better system of Stats and Special Abilities. Stats will be the Foundation of "great" Next Gen Football Sims.

@OP

As I have explained on several occasions, EA have had how many attempts? how many years of mediocre football games? Did they stop? was it the end for them?

Stop over-exagerating honestly. Perhaps peoples expectations outweighs their patient, I am a patient man however and know they will get it right on Next Gen eventually just give it time. Hopefully with a new engine next year it will click.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I hope pes 09 at least have good defense like pes 5.
No, this is not the end, pes 09 will bring the series back to life.

Maan its the start of the death oF FIfA :D

FIFA's been reborn, and that's the problem. The fact that lazy fucking EA have actually made a better game than Konami for what looks to be 2 years running, and it's a disgrace!

This isn't the end though, unless fanboys keep clinging to the idea that this is going to be some kind of rebirth from here, I say wait until the release to make a final decision on it, but in truth from the demo... The old PES is dead and burried. The problem might actually be that they've tried to make the game next gen on the framework of the old, and in the process removed everything that made the old good. Maybe it's time Konami do what EA did, and just chuck the old and tired engine, AI, graphics... EVERYTHING out the window and start a new. If they can do it once, they can do it again!

I personally didnt see anything wrong with Pro 08 - yes it was quick, 'arcadey' and a little too freeflowing but it wasnt as bad as people made out to be (although the edit options looked like something out of a footy game on the megadrive about 15 years ago.)

As for Pro 5 i'm intrigued to see so many good reviews about it, i personally thought it was the worst one! The first touch was horrendous, free kicks were as easy as penalties and the ref just blew the whistle for everything, you could get sent off for farting!

I think some people's judgements on Pro 09 are a little premature, 'oh the squads are out of date' (thats what edit mode is for) the 'ball physiques are crap' its all just too early - people have to remember that its a new game, your old pass and goal scoring systems have to evolve with the game, you cant go into Pro 09 playing like you did in Pro 08, 6 or 5. I think a lot of people who bash 09 are just intimidated with the change much like the jump from San Andreas to GTA 4. In my opinion Pro 09 is so sophisticated, edit mode is back and better, the defence is unbelievable, the runs are realistic and the through balls are impressive, you really have to be alive to make the right pass at the right time, its more realistic.

For people who bash Pro 09 just give it more time, you might have cracked "top player" in the other pro's, played 09 and thought "wow, my system isnt working here, this is crap," just give it time and evolve your abilities with the game.

^Yeah, afterall pes 09 is great. Pes 5 (so far, not counting pes 09 is the best pes), when it came out, people were complaining about shooting, headers and crosses not being good. It's normal for a new game to get bahsed.

I don't know about last year. Remember that I don't have live so far but I'l get it. This year, almost all games will contain DLC unlike last year. There's still hope that Konami will release DLC.

This isn't the end though(...)

I'm sure EA producing games of "superior" quality to Konami is a sign of the apocalypse! I've been playing PES since the first European version of the game and I love the series. Like any fan I was disapointed with 2008 however I remain very confident that 2009 will be just like the old days. The edit system for one is far more like it's former self.

However, even if 2009 still fails, I agree it's not "the end". 2009 looks like PES is back on it's way to glory - but it might be another year (hopefully not) before it achieves it.
