Pro Evolution Soccer 3 PC won't launch!

Hi guys,

I suspect this may be a frequently answered question, but I've not been able to track down a solution yet. I've just installed PES3 PC and I can't get it to launch at all. If you launch pes3.exe there is a brief pause (within Windows) where it looks as though the game is about to start, but eventually Windows XP gives a 'program unexpectedly quit' message. The same happens instantly if you try to launch setting.exe.

I've yet to try the latest patch (I don't have 'net access at home presently) but I can say that trying different videocard drivers hasn't helped - I have a Radeon 9800 Pro, and have tried every version of the Catalyst drivers from 4.2-4.5 (I'll be trying 4.6 tonight also) and have experienced the same symptoms.

Any ideas? Is this a known issue? Any known workarounds? Any help much appreciated!

Make sure that you dont have anything else using high system resources in the background (cos the game takes a lot anyway)

In the settings file maybeyou have to change the resolution settings....
trying the new patch would useful though

Delete the cafe file? Isn't that kind of needed for the game? I've not had anything else running in the background when I've tried it (apart from system utility type things - certainly nothing I wouldn't choose to close to test).

I downloaded the patch and took it home yesterday, but it didn't actually want to install! I got an error message during the patch process (something about not being able to create a file - I can't remember the exact message, I'd just gotten back from the pub :)

Actually, a quick check shows that the patch I copied to CD to take home wasn't actually the complete file (2mb out of 10mb - doh!). I'll try again tonight...

Okay, tried the patch and I still get the same behaviour from setting.exe; pes3.exe now informs me that SecuROM has had some problem with CD-ROM emulation software conflicts! (I've read about this before - Splinter Cell 2 refusing to play if you've got Daemon Tools installed, for instance). I'm following the instructions on SecuROM's webpage to see which program it is that is causing the conflict (since I don't actually think I *have* any CD-ROM emulation software installed), but I have a suspicion this won't solve the problem anyway, since setting.exe just plain crashed.

I'm getting very frustrated now. 4 days and still no luck!

1. delete the cafe file if you havnt
2. try a cracked exe from gamecopyworld.com that should allow you to play w/o your disc, as outlined in my one thread at the top of this forum.
3. FYI the new 4.7 Catalyst drives just came out this week.

I've already tried both deleting the cafe file, and a cracked exe. The former made no difference, the latter just went straight to the bomb-at-launch dialogue rather than the SecuROM error message.

Incidentally, when I followed SecuROM's instructions from their website, which tell you to do a 'launch analysis' (right-click pes3.exe - it's in the menu) to determine which emulation software it is conflicting with, their own launch analysis program crashes giving some message about a function in kernel32.dll not being found. I am beginning to suspect Windows itself is seriously damaged; it's just weird that this is the only game or application I'm having trouble with.

I'll try Catalyst 4.7, but considering that driver versions 4.2-4.6 all had the same result, I don't have much hope of it fixing it...
