Problems defending with 4-4-2...

hi there...
well...i have some difficult time defending when my formation is 4-4-2...
I have two problems...

a)The RB and LB join the attack leaving their side totally vulnerable to counter attacks...especially if the opponent plays with 3 in the front line, then the match is a living hell..
Setting backwards the attacking arrows, doesn't seem to help...

b)A system with 4 at the back, seems to be extremely vulnerable to through passes...That is something that doesn't happen with 3 cbs...

Any suggestions except of changing my formation?

play the rb and lbs really deep into defense., have their individual arrows pointing backwards too and yeah set the defense to high too..

Have your defensive midfielder detting to zonal marking. And set you side backs to the same.
Had the same prob myself but i changed to a 3-5-2 formation and i concede nothing

As patrick said, i change to 3-5-2 aswell and your team defends so much better than 4-4-2 cos the best means of defense is attack. This was my strategy on pes4 too. The way i play it aswell consists of 2 dmf which can protect from opposition runs and through balls but also hang around outside the 18yd box for bullet shots. three tall centre backs with good speed and heading ability all you need

Exactly .I jnow your probably hate changing from 4-4-2 but 4-3-3 is way better, u put constant pressure on the other team and when they break your two defensive midfielder block anything.Stam ferdinand and maldini as back three and tour sorted.

thx guys for your advice...actually,my official formation now is 3-5-2,either with 2 dmf or with 1 dmf and 2 amf...
however,sometimes,4-4-2 with two dmf and 2 cmf seems useful...
actually, what i believe,is that the formation you choose really matters...
on the other side,i have concluded that the most important thing,is to be "skillful" as a player...
