PROFESSIONAL difficulty - The true PES 2010!

I agree that on Top difficulty the opposition plays a very possession minded game. Personally I play a high pressure game, using the 2nd-player pressure control to pressure the man on the ball while I run to pressure the obvious pass target. I admire the AI for being able to keep the ball but agree that it needs to do something with it. Can be very boring. At the same time though, if you back off from the AI team it will attack and can be quite clever - they sometimes even get one or two past me.

I play ML with 5 min games on Pro and important matches on 10 mins on Top. Regardless of how the other team attacks (or not) on Top, with Pro the opposition defense is too weak and I feel like I'm cheating as my average ML team can beat anyone. I will often win 2-0 against good teams and 4-0 against poor teams in a 5 min Pro match.

IMO - Pro is too easy. But I take your point about it being a bit boring playing on Top Player as they are boring ball hogs.

I see what your saying but also 5min games? bit short aint it, its not like fifa

I play minimum 15mins and in most games on top player in ML with hull city score is normally 2-0/1-1/1-0/2-1 now n again i get the odd 4-0/3-0 buts its rare

I tried it. The computer was more attacking and you won more 50 50s, but they make more mistakes and miss more sitters and get caught at the back alot more, so it was too easy.

Top player is still the best option for me.

So i see that there is after all different opinions on this topic. However i might try out pro level in my BAL season. Though i still doubt it will actually make the game more challenging reducing the difficulty level. But thanks for the tips guys.

I recently tested with global modifying of tactics, and it turned out that all in all, Top Player was best. At Professional the gameplay was arguably a little better, but the AI _NEVER_ score in a math you watch in spectator mode. On Top Player there is at least some goals, making me think that BAL would be better because of it.
At least I find it boring when I have to be the only reason my team get a goal, not to mention how boring it is to never concede.

I used to think Pro level was the ultimate choice, but as mentioned, I lean towards Top Player once again.

Make sure all teams push up their defense line (65-80) and attack wider, and reduce pressure to less than 65 to avoid that the player in possession of the ball gets gang raped all the time.
It made my game a lot better at least.

PS. PES_2010_Editor_v1.6 offer global team slider edit.

Pro is definitely not harder than top, it's just a hell of a lot more realistic. On top it's as if I'm playing hockey . The ball is zinging all over the place at breakneck speeds and it's ok for the cpu to body check your ass all game long. Not like top is that challenging either. As easy as pro level is, top is only slightly harder.

Sometimes pro will give you a run for your money but most of the times it's a walk in the park. I think a lot of it has to do with tactics and squad selections. I'm usually playing against backup goalkeepers and Barca has never fielded their full strength lineup. It's always the likes of Marquez, Bojan, Jonathan, and Jeffren. Messi will play now and then but he always get's subbed off when they need a goal. Sometimes blue arrow players are worth playing and the cpu should take player cards into consideration instead of constantly choosing shitty players just cuz they have red arrow cuz player cards make all the difference.

you can fix that by going assisted settings and changing AI team to have 'select squad by ability'... or something to that effect. Anyway it then means when you play Barca then you will be playing their full strength squad (regardless of form).

Bluchamp do you have a list of your edits with the sliders (like for example - relegation battlers / midtable / euro aspirants). I am about to start a new master league and wondered if you had something like this sorted. I realise you have done an option file for PS3 but I am on xbox360 and will need to go through and make the changes manually.

Top Player is already too easy for me, and from what I'm hearing I doubt Pro will be harder.

I'll give er a go, but it sounds to me more like those who find the AI to "cheat" are finding Pro more fun. Of course that would be the case, but like I said with PES 09, I want a challenge, and to me the so-called "cheating" is the challenge I want. i.e. I wish there was more cheating because the games just too easy ;)

That's my biggest complaint this year anyway.

I dont want them to cheat. I want them strong enough and clever enough to give a challenge without cheating.

When top player becomes too easy (which it always does eventually after practice) I start picking weaker and weaker teams, to give more of a challenge.

That only happen when you evolve a playstyle that isn't really "realistic", but you exploit every weakness in AI that you learn over time.
It is unavoidable with the AI programmers got per 2009, but it's a constant evolution in that area, even though it's babysteps and sometimes even a few steps back like in PES2010.

You can outsmart even the best simulators by doing unrealistic things, and you will discover several "glitches" in the "realism" over time, there is no exception and certainly not in any football sim game, action sims or manager games.
