Reality? England Tips

I have started to play a bit more National team football with my beloved England. After many months of club footie, mostly because you get to use great players of all nationalities (and that you get to see the really nice kits that JB has in his patches!). But something alarming has happened since I last played with England.

I don't know if PES3 has secretly stored information on it but it seems to know that England just cannot seem to beat Sweden! Does the CPU know that the last time was 1968? I always play on 5* but even then I can beat Brazil and France (sometimes!), but Sweden are just too tight in defence and Zlatan is just a Bosnien Ronaldo!

I played two matches against a Swedish friend last night (6/4) and I lost the first 5 - 0 and then the second 6 - 0!!! What the f%¤ck is happening? My friend is of about the same ability as myself but Sweden just seem to be well good.

Could it be the absence of Rio? Could it be that Terry isn't even close to Rio in terms of defensive capabilities? Does his height make him worse then Rio in the air? Has everyone else removed Rio from the national team and Man U? You're only cheating yourselves otherwise!

Has anyone got any tips for formations/tactics etc for England that can help me regain some respect here in Stockholm? Even losing on PES3 with England makes me feel shit!!

Thanks for all the replies guys & gals !? Anyway, I thought I'd ask another question and just hope that I don't get such an overwhelming response this time.

Does anyone know if there is a setting/tactic that would make, say, Ashley Cole, make overlapping runs past the winger on the wing? He does this with great success in Arsenal (why can't he seem to get it right with England....another thread...). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Keep the ball on the ground and shoot much (since the Swedish keepers aren't very good). That's all advice I can give you. When I think about it, I've acctually never lost to England using Sweden in the game.

Mumpleaser, sorry about the lack of replies mate.

First of all, in the individual player settings, give Ashley Cole a forward Attack arrow amd a normal or low Defence arrow and he should bomb forward quite a bit but may be caught out of position when you need him at the back (like IRL then! ;) ).

My preferred formations with England are 4-4-2 diamond midfield and 3-5-2 with 2 DMFs. Gerrard is the first/only DMF and Hargreaves or whoever as the second one.
With 3 defenders, use Cole as LB, Campbell as CB and Gary Neville as RB so no probs with a lack or Rio there. With 4 at the back, Terry or Woodgate or Brown or whoever is in your squad should be fine.

Let us know how your next matches go.

If there are any more probs, send me a PM and I'll give you more details formation details :)

Cheers guys!

I have had limited success by changing my formation to 4-4-2b and using a player I don't really rate. Emile Heskey!! I find his size and ball holding abilities really useful against the physically strong and tall Swedes. I never use him otherwise but he is great against the more 'physical' countries. Still have a problem at the back though with tall strikers like Zlatan towering over Cole and Terry.

I'll keep you informed!

Zyg don't apologise it had been one day and he's just being a brat
If you think we're here to automatically answer your every beck and call then you've got another thing coming, next time be a bit more patient eh and don't throw your rattle out of the pram so early we'll get here as quick as possible

Try this kind of formation with James, Cole, Campbell, Terry, Neville, Gerrard (LM), Lampard(DM), Beckham, Scholes, Rooney and Owen
Gives you width and security - suits England just fine, Lampard and Gerrard will clear up at the back and the rest up front should be just down to your finishing :p

I don't "EXPECT" any answers at all and I certainly don't believe that moderators are just here to answer our questions (I thought they were just here to keep everything/everyone in order?). I was being sarcastic in my second post, trying to generate a response and I don't know if you noticed but there was another question in the second post.

Thanks for your answers everybody and thanks to Mutu for the great diagram.

P.S. I believe it's roughly 30 years since I had a rattle so I'll disregard that insult. ;)

One idea would be to use the cb overlap tactic (or whatever it's called) so that you get some more big guys up front since that seems to be your problem.

Well, with Zoidberg's excellent option file, this is how I use England:
4-4-2
............X............ GK=James
........X......X........ CBT=Terry/Campbell
...X................X... SB=Neville/Cole
...............X......... DMF=Gerrard
......X.................. DMF=Lampard
...............X......... OMF=Scholes
.....X................... OMF=Beckham
.............X........... CF=Heskey
........X................ CF=Owen

I set Lampard/Scholes/Beckham/Heskey & Owen's attack arrows all forward. A second arrow for Becks & Scholes pointing diagonally forwards/outwards.
The team's bias is set to attack also.
This is quite a good setting, if you're not too concerned for defence!

hey mumpleaser, try using the default juventus tactics, i use these as england, with rooney in del pieros role and owen in trez's role, or owen in del piero's role and some1 like alan smith or robbie fowler in tez's role,

bear in mind that fowler can be used in the "del piero" role, coz he has good all round stats!! hope this helps :)

this is effective as the "del piero" role allows that player to move in and out to and from the left which is good for runs and off the ball!!

This is what I've done with England and it's worked a treat!!!

I have:

James

G.Neville Campbell Terry Cole
Beckham Gerrard Scholes Dyer
Vassel/Heskey Owen

I played 2 matches against Sweden on 5* last night and did them 4 - 0 and then 4 - 2. I changed some of the players 'Individual Settings' (as seen on diagram and they move around a whole lote better. Thanks everybody!! :D :D :D

Give him a 'reaction' special ability, helps to get him forward too.

I don't like upgrading players as I feel like I'm cheating a bit. I do it with players such as Ronaldinho/Terry/Lampard as they really are a lot better in real life but I never usually change their special abilities.

If I change anything I have to inform about 6 of ny mates so that they can change it as well. Otherwise, when it comes to a tournament I might play a certain way with a player that I have upgraded and I won't be able to pull things off (matron) like I could on my game! It's annoying, but I'd rather have the continuity of all of my friends having exactly the same game!
