Sabatasso's quick n' dirty PES-fix [UPDATE]
OK, I have tinkered and tested nearly every possible combination of global editing to get PES to play better. After a break from the game, I have returned with fresh eyes and I started from scratch.
First off, I am not sure if dido use a "gameplay patch by komu" or have made one of his own, but the important part is that by using the exe file from smoke's patch does improve the AI of the game substantially. I have tried some of the exe patches from komu, but I have not found any that works as well as dido's exe file at least.
So here is what I did:
I downloaded smoke's patch and installed it. I was unhappy with several kits, and since dido did not use GDB manager, I simply added one and replaced the kits I wanted. It is quite easy, just use PES2011 editor by W!ld@ to find out the index number of the team you want to add a new kit to, and add a line in the map.txt file like this <19, "National\Europe\Norway"> (without <>) where 19 is the team index and National\Europe\Norway is the directory inside GDB where the kit files are found.
After a small transfer update (Adriano to Corinthians etc.) I did a small global edit. First off, let me explain something about game difficulty, Professional seem to add about 2-3 points of pressure to all teams, and Top Player add even more. So first off I reduce pressing by 15 points (1-100 in the editor equals 1-20 in the game, so 15 equals 3). If you like you could do 20 or 25 too, especially if you think Top Player gets too frantic. Next up I do a +15 Compactness, because all teams seem to clutter around the ball too much, especially on the higher difficulties. This result in a little more space in midfield, and slightly more time on the ball, which is vital if you play midfielder in BAL for example.
Team Edit Summary
-15 Pressing
+15 Compactness

[UPDATE]
I have bee removing the management strategies on my own team for quite a while, because it seems to sort of loosen the strings a bit on the team. after seeing this post (http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=84266) I decided to test doing it on all teams as well. It works wonders to be honest. I have not went as crazy as Stu1983 with the pressing stat though.
New Team Edit Summary
Remove all "Management Edit" strategies, then add the most important ones to the "Strategy" panel.
*I also "widened" the defense and midfield on all teams that had the players cluttered in the center pitch as Many Italian teams do by default. It opened the midfield up a bit and made it much better for those teams to find passing alternatives and to keep possession.
+20 or 25 to Player Support
-20 or 25 to Pressing
-20 or 25 to Compactness
The result seems to be that AI pressure the player in possession only one at the time in most situations, they also won't get dead tired at 65 minutes, and the scorelines are less dull.
Thanks to Stu1983 for his findings.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now over to the players. I have found that in training mode I like that most players lose all speed when they turn and twist with the ball, but in a real game it is simply unbearable. AI and player defenders always just barge into the player in possession, regardless of the situation, and being on the move is VITAL in this game. In real life a defender would close in and try to hinder the attacker to get past, in PES the defender barge in and go straight for the kill. This is a weakness that is strengthened by the obvious mobility disadvantage a player in possession of the ball has. So to rectify some of it, we add "Speed Merchant" card to all players. This will accomplish two important things during gameplay. First of all, when playing 2 player, the defenders need to be a little smarter when trying to disposess the attacker, and it will make fast and agile players really good at running into gaps and openings with the ball.
I also like to add +5 Teamwork to all players, this will ensure a bit more difficult AI matches, as the AI find more passing alternatives and seem to become a little less predetermined in their attacking play.
It will also make sure that it will be a great deal more fun to play BAL, even at weaker teams, because the simply pass the ball much more. I even have a dedicated BAL file where all players have a minimum of 75 teamwork, which seem to remove a lot of the striker related problems for the AI as well.
I want to look at Repsonse next, as it is quite vital for both AI behavior and player interaction. A defender with 90 or more response will usually react to the moves you do on the controller, even before the player you control perform the actions you have decided. So in light of that I have reduced all players Response by 5 points. Any player below 75 response will be rather abscent-minded on the field though, but because of form arrows I have set the global minimum to 70. Keepers are quite dependent on Response, and it is possibly their most important ability. After reducing it by 5 globally, I noticed that you are able to blast the ball past a mediocre goalkeeper, just above his head, before he could react sometimes. If you don't like this, just add 5 Response to goalkeepers, and they will return to normal.
Since I have reduced response globally, it will not affect the balance between defenders and attackers, it will nearly remove the situations where AI controlled Puyol and similar players react to your moves before you perform them. But mind you, they will still be a royal pain in the ass to shake off.
When it comes to Condition, I am really torn. I think 8 is too much for any player, because no one is super duper all the time, and a good player with a green arrow is nothing less than in good shape. So I have set Condition minimum to 5 and max to 7 for all players. While a condition of 5 will result in blue arrows quite frequently and a "poor" enough form across the board. This edit, especially, is optional, of course, and I admit that I like the game best when green arrows are dominant.
Player Edit Summary
Speed Merchant Card for all players
+5 Teamwork for all players (optional minimum 75)
-5 Response (optional +5 to keepers to keep them at default)
Minimum 5 condition, maximum 7 (Optional)
EDIT: NEW DISCOVERY
I would drop the above mentioned player edits, as response seem to be the key factor for all players. If everybody is set to 75, the game seem to loosen up, but become more tense at the same time. My best discovery so far. I did try to set all players to 80, 85 and 90, and then at 60, but 75 seem to give the best results by far.
New Player Summary
All players 75 Response
I also edit set piece settings for all teams, by setting 2-3 defenders to go up on offensive set-pieces (corners mainly) to add a substantial pressure in the air in these situations. I can not even count how many goals Sergio Ramos have scored on me in corner situations after I did this, it is highly recommended.
As you can see, the edits are quite small, but the impact on the game is quite huge. I want you all to enjoy the game and have fun, and BAL is funnier than ever with these edits.
GOOD LUCK!
