if the computer takesmore than about 5 seconds taking a penalty it means there hitting it down the middle.

Yes indeed, this is correct.

Yeah, it also works when you take the penalty aswell. So you gotta be a bit careful.

But in general, it can come in handy when playing against family or friends. ;)

Damn... why couldn't I have read that earlier! On my ML I just conceded a penalty which went straight down the middle :crymore:

I've also noticed, when taking a penalty, if the CPU keeper looks down, he usually dives down; and if he stetches his arms to make himself look big, he usually dives up. And when the CPU is taking the penalty, sometimes, it looks like they're looking at where they're gonna kick it.

When i went through a bad run of penalties i used to think that the computer could reald my mind, so i tended to use pencils to press the buttons on the d-pad, and to my delight i scored every penalty from then on! HEHE

I use another method:

Basically, when I am going to save a penalty, I first just decide on a general direction (left or right, or middle).

Now, we all know that shots taken down the middle are easily saved by simply not pressing anything (That will save both low and high shots down the middle).

But, for shots going left or right:

Decide on left or right, and press the d-pad in that direction. Do NOT decide on high or low yet.

Now, with the D-pad, for example, pressed left, watch the player take the kick. Look carefully at the last stage of animation before he hits the ball. You will soon notice that the animation for high left is different than the animation for low left (The animation for low-struk balls usually (depending on the type of penalty style the player has) is a broadside shot, or Controll Shot, in other words it seems to be struck with less force.

Once you see this difference in animation, it is quite easy to learn to distinguish between high and low pentaltys.
Basically, all you do is keep left pressed untill you can confirm to yourself if he is striking it low or high. If it is high, just keep left pressed. If it is low, press down-left quickly before the shot is taken.

Has helped me a couple of times, atleast it effectively narrows the number of penalty-directions to keep track of from 5 to 3.
