Scoring From Halfway Line?

Hi, I've been trying to score from inside my own half for ages, I've seen the keeper coming right to the edge of the box so I'm sure it's possible. I've also seen videos on YouTube and even read on here somewhere that it can be done.

For my PS3, I'm doing the following... Usually with England as they have Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham (who I play down the left for this) in midfield all with excellent long pass ratings. I run at roughly a 45 degree angle towards the centre of the pitch, just before I reach it, I hold L1 and push the right analogue stick to the right to deliver a high long ball.

I never cross the halfway line because the keeper retreats if you do.

However, every time I do it, the ball just drops safely into the keepers hands, only once have I managed to get it over the keeper and on that attempt it went over the goal too!

I've tried holding R1 so I sprint forward towards the centre, no R1 so I'm just jogging forward. Tried it with Circle instead of the right analogue, I've tried with different players and different positions but just can't get it.

Am I missing anything? Is this definitely possible? Maybe it's just because I'm doing it on Top Player? Help anyone?

You should check similar threads because I posted the technique there.

This can be done on top player and it's definitely possible because I have done over 20 times.

Here is my post:

____________________________________________________________________

I once posted here a short version of my technique and I felt it wasn't good enough. I wanted to share it with because it's freaking awesome and quite easy.

OK so here it is:

First of all, you need to know that it won't work right away. I managed to "master" this after a lot of practice and many tries. So this is how it goes:

1. You need to keep track of the keeper on the little raddar at the bottom. You need to pass the ball around at your half for sometime untill you see that the keeper is on the edge of the box.

2. When you see that the keeper's position is right, start moving with a player towards the half way line. If you are with a left- footed player, try moving diagonaly to the left, and as so to right- footed.

NOTE 1: You need to go to the center of the line, not on the sides or anything.

NOTE 2: This works a lot better after clearing a corner- when there is a corner given to the opposite team, and you clear the ball, quickly collect it and do as following.

3. When you reach about two meters or less it's time to preform the kick.

First- don't let go of (the running button) untill you realese the ball.

than you need to hold the button (the button where you stop the ball facing the goal with) pressed, and then press (cross button), and don't let go of the button.

This should bring the ball high up and above the keeper.

NOTE 1: It is important that you don't over pass the half way line. once you go past it the keeper will return to his goal and it won't work. try shooting from about a meter or so from the line.

NOTE 2: Not all of the players can do this. It works with high rated passing players (for example, in Chelsea- Ballack, A. Cole, Lampard, Deco, Drogba, Carvalho). So, if the ball comes short of the goal, maybe you didn't do it right or try changing players.

NOTE 2: At first, when you kick it, the keeper will actualy punch the ball into his own goal and it will count as an own goal. But after you can score regulary with this, the player will kick the ball over the keeper without touching him.

Now you're ready to score from the half way line!

The most important thing is to practice and don't give up when you can't seem to get a hold of it. I did it after about 5- 10 tries and believe me it's worth waiting this much to look at your friends face when you score...

I've thought of this all by my self with a bit help from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD7Kf...eature=related

NOTE: Now that I searched Youtube for the video I found some other techniques, maybe I'll try them out.

Sorry if this was too long but I wanted to explain every step of it.

Have fun!

Sorry, I did actually read that thread, but because it was fairly old and wasn't sure on the forum's policy on necroposting. I thought it'd be safer to start my own thread. I followed those instructions too but didn't have much success. Any other tips to offer? You mentioned it being punched into the goal but for me it is always short and lands straight in the keepers hands (normally around the penalty spot).

This is driving me nuts!!

Try using a highly skilled player like Lampard, Xavi, Fabregas. Another important thing- you should run at full speed and then shoot.

I managed it twice last night, not entirely sure what I was doing differently. Once I ran just over the halfway line, and slightly left of the centre spot with Gerrard. Floated into the top corner. Second time with Xavi, straight at the centre spot at a 45 degree angle and it curled in.

They were against crappy teams though, like Deportivo and Costa Rica, so bad keepers. Still it's progress. Thanks for the help, alonCFC.

alonCFC, have you mastered this to the extent that you can do it every time (or close to it) or is it still just a hit and miss technique that needs a bit of luck to work?

I have reached the point that I can do it whenever I have the opportunity. Maybe 1 out of 4 times it won't go in.

i must of tried scoring from the halfway properly about a million time with so many near misses (using shoot button.. )
finally scored one about a week ago 89th minute playing online and score was 1-1

upstep di nitale for udinese on the left side of the centre circle, smashed it from just inside the oppositions half hit it like a rocket
and it was one of them when the goalkeeper kinda of dives backward and in of the underside of the crossbar

i creamed my pants:laugh:
