Scoring with Many of Your Players in the Box

I seem to have trouble scoring when I have 4 or 5 guys in and around the box. I don't have a problem scoring on counter-attack fastbreaks, but when i try to use a "Possession" style offense, slowly working the ball down the field with all my guys, i can't then score.

Say you use a possession offense, then you get down toward the box, and have all your guys around the area. How do you guys score? Do you go for the header? (which i'm not good at btw) Or do you guys try to pass it around the box, even if there are a lot of defenders. Or do you try a long shot?

Any help would be appreciated.

I find with shooting one of the most important things to do is to create space for yourself. If your shot is obviously going to be blocked by a defender, fakie the shot and make a gap. or you could try and one-two with a player that's free. Normally as long as the pass doesn't go directly to the opposition and they're not in 'jip mode', passing around the box creates alot of space. I think the game makes allowances for you if you pass the ball around. kinda hard to explain, but basically if you see a guy who you think might have his pass intercepted, it's still often worth trying playing a 1-2 of them as i swear it gives you space if you keep the ball moving.

It's worth just doing 5 minutes shooting training so that when you come round to it in a game, you'll know which players like to do which type of shots. I'd also suggest (unless you are sprinting onto a ball to smash towards goal) to use R2+Shoot in and around the box. It will help you place them to the sides of the goal where no matter who's the keeper, they won't be able to stop it.

You may also want to have a look at your forwards. If you're saying that you're not getting enough chances, it could be that your forwards aren't making runs for you, be sure you've set up their attacking arrows properly. Be careful not to push too many people up with too higher attacking arrows. Try to organise your formation so that you have men who go no further than the edge of the box (or slightly further out) so you always have a pass backwards so you can shift the ball around nicely. If you have a good formation you can just sit on the edge of the box passing it round until you see the man in space and make the killer pass.

You've also gotta remember that the computer is a massive cheat and the better you get at the game, the more you'll come to hate it. 3 broken controllers and 2 broken knuckles later makes this a warning to be heeded.

I normally end up cutting it back to the edge of the area for my AMF to shoot. Passing it too much around the area is just asking to be intercepted. Having a player with a good shot just playing outside the area, pass it back and hit first time.

Thanks for the help. Adams, enjoyed your advice about formation and arrows, would you share which formation you use, and how you put your arrows. Much appreciated.

no probs.

but with the arrows, it's probably best if you try some exhibition matches with multiple different teams. Each team should have their own setup. If you go to formation settings and click on 'individual', you can see how they've set up their arrows. You can then just steal how they've done it. I think i got alot of my ideas from the 'sao paolo' team, but i use 3 at the back. i play normally a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2. but other than that, to describe the formation would be a bit tricky.

Just when you're playing, keep an eye on your radar. For when you've got possesion with any of your players, look around you on the radar and see who's moving and who isn't moving. After a few games you'll start to see who the dead link is, then you can experiment with his arrows until he's no longer a dead link. Then do it again and again until you've found the right setup. Don't be too hasty to change people around though, some games they might just be having a bad day, or the computer might doing it's best to annoy you, just try different things and make sure you've got the art of shot feignting down to a T, 'cos that's the easiest way to shake a guy off so you can make forward passes.

i just use the textbook method of a quick pass into the centre of the box and a turn and shoot with a low ball in the corner. most of the the time the keeper won't even move for it.
