Hi,

Does this option in the match day settings actually affect my players?

If you press square (PS3) over a player you can choose different "Roles" which in turn has different stats for different positions.

Does anyone know if their actual stats will change once on the pitch?

Thanks.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think actual stats don't change, it's just the game's overall rating based on KONAMI's dumb formulas. imo they don't mean jack

The players stats will not change, it is the 'ROLE' that your AI will perform with said player. For instance placing an attacker as a SS instead of a CF will cause him to often drop deeper and find space, but less likely to make forward runs spliting the opposition defence.

Try experimenting, you should soon see the subtle differences.

The overall rating is just a quick guide as to how useful a player might be in said position, for instance R/LWF will have a high overall rating if he has long great passing speed/accuracy. But that doesnt mean a quick dribbler with poor passing willl not be effective depending on how you personally construct your attacks!

it does affect but not the stats but the overall
like when you put Messi in SMF he'll be slower than if you put him in SS

Not completely accurate, I play McGeady as a fifth centreback when I use Spartak Moscow and the only affect is that he tends to drift in and out of the game. He's dribbling and speed isn't affected though. He's a bloody useful sweeper as well! :D

What is it with you an McGeady?

You're such a bloody noob! Putting a fast player at centre back is what idiots on Fifa often do. He really shouldn't be useful there!

Though it's interesting reading what people are saying. I've never played someone out of position before, though be the sounds of it, it could be useful. An SS playing at CF or SM for example.

Yeah, I saw he's other trolling pearler ... numpty! :D

Ah well theres a reason I play him in defence, I use 442 diamond formation and play long ball. McGeady is just to catch fast attackers. In fact I very rarely see McGeady except when he's lumping the ball up field. I don't like having players like him in attacking positions because I know I will be tempted to dribble - and ultimately give the ball away.

I played in a 4 man league at a mates on Saturday using McGeady as a 5th defender. My record was

Played 3
Won 2
drew 1
lost 0
Goals scored 4
Goals conceded 0

Long ball all the way!

stats never change wheresoever you place the player. what changes are the player cards which will be deactivated if you choose a "wrong" role. for example messi's running cards won't work when using him as a SMF which has quite a big impact on his game...

You'll be surprised. Some players actually have a higher overall rating if you play him out of position (Ozil is a good example).

Indeed, Tim Cahill has a higher overall total when played upfront than his default role. I've found some players with low 70 totals but with 75+ for other positions which makes me question how the other role can be their 'preferred' role.

Yeah I know this. I play players out of their default position when the position I want to play them in, is one of the positions they can play in.... if that makes sense :)

For example, Douglas Costa is an AM by default, but he can also play CM, SM, SS. I usually play him at SM. I would not play him as a sweeper because that's not one of his highlighted positions.

I know what you're saying Sminky... it's a bit daft. Though I actually find Cahill more effective in the "hole", even though he is technically better rated as a striker.
