Semi-assisted cursor changes (flawed?)

In my effort to avoid being burned by the lofted through pass against the CPU I decided to take the advice of some here and let my defenders handle the situation without my direct involvement.

I thought that the Semi-assisted setting would be perfect since it is described as "the cursor switches automatically only when the team is attacking. When defending, all cursor switching must be executed manually by pressing L1." The problem is, whenever I am on defense and the CPU sends a ball in the air, like a lofted through pass, the cursor automatically changes to the "nearest defender."

Because of this I have switched to Non-assisted, but it is a pain getting used to always pressing L1 on offense to switch the cursor to the player receiving the pass. It can be difficult changing the cursor in tight places where there are quick passes. I guess I will get used to it over time. Hopefully this will get fixed in the upcoming patch that is supposed to be released tomorrow.

I total agree with you, but not just this year. I think its been a problem ever since they changed from the old system of just manual and auto. I also find a problem that the correct player is not always chosen when I do press L1, either a player behind the play just because he deemed to be in a better position even thought there's no chance of him catching up.

it a bit of a pain oggmeista, especially in tight situations when you need the correct player fast. Always seemed to me a trick to gloss over the problem. Same as the R3 click to make a player run, maybe its rose tinted glasses but in the older games the players made runs and the controls worked much better.

Agreed. It's annoying when a player seemingly refuses to make an obvious run into space, it's like we're being punished for not using the new features!
