It had licensed teams and players until Sensible Soccer 98 World Cup Edition and Sensible Soccer 2000 but I didn't play those - although I think I have Sensible Soccer 2000 at home somewhere.

I'm sure people corrected the names and it ran fine. I'm expecting a decent interface, though I'm not sure whether to expect correct player names.

I loved the tactics set-up on SWOS. I spent about two hours making the perfect tactic for myself and instinctively knew where every player was, it was great. The major let down they had in SWOS was the stupid notion that, if a striker's strongest abilities were heading and control but you didn't dribble with him almost every game much and he didn't head the ball pretty much all the time yet still scored 50 goals, his price would shoot down.

I can't recall exactly but I think if you put full name i.e. David Beckham it would crash but if you had Beckham it was fine or vice versa. Anyhow the game itself was pretty good as the more your talking about it the more thats coming back to me, dribbling past a funny looking sliding tackle was the business and then curling a reberto carlos style shot passed the keeper! It was brilliant tho finding a player were the ball seemed like it was stuck to the players foot the runs you could do were fantastic. Think I might buy this game after all lol:)

Believe it or not, I used to play it on the keyboard. Found I had more control even though everyone who reviewed any Sensi games said that you couldn't possibly do a mazy dribble and keep control of the ball.

I loved putting curl on short passes. God, I had some lovely moments on that game. I even worked out the secret to achieving powerful shots with strikers who had pathetic shooting ability.

Well yeah some players did lose the ball you moved left and the ball continued right but there was players that you could make do 360degree turns at break neck speed and still have the ball. I remember that now super curling through balls.

I always did 360 degree turns at lightning speed - unless the player had such dire control you couldn't do it with a joypad either.

I remember standing on one side of the goal, shooting from 30 yards and seeing it curl all the way over to the other side of the goal, across the goalkeeper and in. Those were goals!

Something else I remember. Vicenza had a goalkeeper valued at 130k who was brilliant at saving powerful shots from the likes of Batistuta or Ronaldo. What he couldn't do was save crap slow shots. Likewise, goalkeepers around 1m could save the crap shots but would make the odd mistake against stronger shots. Very frustrating!

Indeed, but that was one game that got you hooked yet it was so un realistic

Precisely. I must've played around 3,000 matches on it. I know for a fact I played over 2,000 just from the save games I still have on my system.

Looks awful.
I'll still buy it if it comes out for the PC like. When my brother was younger he'd play it till about 3 in the morning and still get up for school the next day, little invalid. He still has it for the amega down his house.

Press release from yesterday on the Codemasters website:

With insane speed, spectacular goals with loads of after-touch, gripping gameplay and a zoomed out camera for the best view of the pitch - it’s all in the return of Sensible Soccer, coming to PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC this summer.

And on top of everything loved by millions comes new features, including replays with typical Sensible Soccer humour that feature caricatured players with the biggest heads you’ve ever seen in football!

Inspired by the pixel players with enlarged heads of the original game, this all new version of Sensible Soccer will include fast cutting replays that take you right into the action as your big-headed players, shown in a new 3D cel-shaded visual style, celebrate those outrageous curling goals from 30 yards out in glorious animations that you were always telling your mates about.

The new exaggerated visual style of the game perfectly complements the addictive, super fast kick-about gameplay that’s just pure Sensible Soccer. When the replay’s done you’re straight back to the match viewed with Sensi’s trademark zoomed out camera. The return of a bird’s-eye view to football gaming lets you see more of the pitch and provides you with the very best way to execute your passing, dribbling, and perfect finishing.

Says Jon Hare, designer and producer of the original Sensible Soccer and games design consultant on this edition: “The all new Sensi is the perfect blend of past, present and future with all the speed, fun and playability of the original combined with all the animations, four-player fun and spiced up with a magical sprinkling of original gameplay features that have never been seen before, including a mega single-player mode, 360-degree control and video style replays featuring cel-shaded caricatures of those lovable big-headed players”

Codemasters will publish Sensible Soccer for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC this summer. Prepare for the return of football gaming taken to the extreme, with banana kicks and more online at the game’s website www.codemasters.com/sensiblesoccer and hook up with your future Sensi teammates in the forum at www.codemasters.com/forum.

• Lightning fast football action, mesmerising dribbling, physics-defying sliding tackles and a huge amount of spectacular goals.
• Multi-player for 1-4 players.
• Over 5,000 selectable players.
• Over 350 teams including international teams.
• DIY Competition mode - play your own rules.
• Full editing options - customise the names of players, teams and competitions.
• Loads of items to unlock and customise your players with.

350+ clubs! 5,500+ players! 50 competition cups! Friendlies! DIY Competitions! Introducing Custom Team game mode with 45 trophy matches!

With breathtakingly fast gameplay, where every fraction of a second matters, Sensible Soccer gives you 360-degree control over every move you make. And you’re going to need it when the ultimate kickabout returns to PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC this June.

When it all kicks off, Sensi will come complete a whole host of game modes that will have you and your mates staying up half the night perfecting exquisite 30-yarders. The 50 different competitions include World and European Cup events, plus leagues and cups from all the top European nations.

For instant play, there are Friendlies and DIY Competitions allowing the creation of limitless variations of cups, leagues & tournaments for up to 64 players! All Sensi’s modes support multiplayer games for up to 4 players, including, for console players, 2-player co-operative teams.

Name them, design their kit to your own taste, even show your style by decking out your lads in classy “Union Jack” shorts and then choose their style of play - aggressive, workhorse, flair or attacking wide boys.

By winning any of the 45 trophy matches, you’ll unlock more game features, including new pitch types, such as muddy, and match balls, plus unique player features such as fancy silver boots and the footballer’s favourite - the infamous mullet hairstyle!

Sensible Soccer is set to feature over 350 International and European club teams providing over 5,500 players from around the world, each individually skilled and with their own unique and stylised look. Squads are made up from 16 players with 12 different tactical formations to choose from.

With insane speed, spectacular goals with loads of after-touch, gripping and addictive gameplay and a zoomed out camera for the best view of the pitch - it’s all in the return of Sensible Soccer, coming to PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC this June.

Im 16 so I am a bit young but even i can see that 90% of people are missing the point. It was revolutionary...this was the Pro Evo of its time!

If its got the old Sensi gameplay, I'm going to love it. The only reason I don't still play SWOS a lot (although I do a little bit) is because the teams aren't up-to-date. Tried doing it myself but the game balance wasn't quite right.

Good thing it didn't come out in March like it was meant to - I've barely touched anything besides Oblivion in the last week.

Not all teams are going to be licensed by the look of it. One of the recent batch of new screens shows "Newcastle 0-0 London Reds". Interesting to see if this gets rectified before the release in June.

My mate's got the SNES version, got it for a quid at a second hand shop. On the back of the box it says "The most realistic simulation of football to date" (something like that).

If this runs at a constant 60fps, is fast as hell, has insane swerving shots and the ball ping pongs around the penalty box then it's a must buy. Make the game fun and I'll buy.

Generally I'm not sure about people who get preview copies, so although he says good things about it, I'm not going to read too much into it the same way I wouldn't if he had criticised it heavily.
