Is there a way to shoot that the ball travels on the ground only ?

You know like in FIFA 2004, you press shoot and another button at the same time.

Is it possible to score by pressing either pass or passthru instead of shoot ?

Help out a newbie.

You could also try using the manual pass option.
Push the right analogue stick and hold down on the stick. Powerful kick along the ground. But you have to be careful with your aiming.

I have scored using X once. I have scored with a backheel (manual pass) too as well as 2 of the 3 types of O-crosses. It's down to luck or trying it a lot - which I didn't do... just lucky.....

I find it's just down to timing. All depends on where the ball is in relation to your player when they shoot. Have no real control over whether it goes on the ground or in the air. As Trevor Brooking might (not) say "It's all about timing...... And his was awful!"

yes, just as many others had said, tap the [] button. there is also a tutorial in the training option which teaches how to shoot.

it would be neat if it means the player could either poke at the top half of the ball for a grounder or at the bottom half of the ball for a flyer. but if it works every single time, the player is a robot, especially when under pressure.

yup, you can even dribble it to goal or do a 360-spin off the keeper. as long as the ball goes in, it goes in (not to talk about offsides, etc.) :)

"Is there a way to shoot that the ball travels on the ground only?"

In the Training options there's a Tutorial that sets out the basic controls, but also a Beginners Lesson that I only noticed and looked at the weekend.

It may be that I've confused the tutorial with the beginners lesson, but one of them takes you through shooting 1-on-1. It says keep the power button low to keep the shot down close the ground, where it's more difficult for the GK to save.

I found the Beginners Lesson is very good for 1-2's and shooting.

What I'd like to know from more accomplished players is how the shoulder buttons and/or Left Analogue stick work in combination with [] to pick the right shot?

L1 will turn a shot into a lob, R2 seems to put more power into the shot, and lift it a little. R1 seems to turn it into a pile driver, usually wide unless you've time and space to sprint onto the ball, let go of R1 then strike.

The Left Analogue gives direction, from the players' perspective I understand. So attacking Left to Right, pulling down will aim towards the 'near' post, on the player's right. Pushing up will send the shot towards the 'far' post on the player's left.

Is that right? And what about pulling the Left stick Left or Right as you shoot? Or in diagonal directions?

In many ways the shooting on pes2 was better, i think on pes4 they should make the shooting somewhere in between pes2 and pes3.

yea.. it may have been but there is nothing like letting a rocket rip from 25 yards out.. ucouldn't do that in PES2

I found it easier on pes2 to do that, letting rip with a scholes long-ranger felt good, i think its also partly down to the way the players shoot, they look a bit strange when taking certain shots.

btw..i say this having scored a 25 yarder with rooney last night, a beauty it was  :D
