When playing right to left, what direction on the d-pad is the left post, right post and centre of goal? It's doing my head in as it changes...is this cause he's kicking with his weak foot?

When playing right to left:

Down-left shoots to the left post (to the player)
Left shoots to the centre and
Up-left shoots to the right post.

Although sometimes they kick it where they darn well please....

Especialy if you try shooting from dificult positions like from turn or big angle or some acrobatic kicks...

yep that is very annoying when they do that, its all about the bounce of the ball, players stats and how much power you put in it.
very annoying though

Shooting in PES3 is piss.

Remember the belters you could score from 40-odd yards on IssPE1 and IssPE2?

Now that was class.

It's one of the many areas that could be improved for PES4.

why is it that everytime i shoot from far and it looks like its gonna go in the goalie somehow manages to get it and its only on 3 stars

thats what is so good about this game, you dont always score like on Fifa.

your gonna have to get more practise with shooting so that your an expert and can hit those areas of the goal the keeper cant reach.
