Short and weak passes

I find that when passing the ball around with the (X) button (on PS2), many of the passes come out weak and slow, which means I have to make the receiver run back towards the ball a long distance to get it before its intercepted, completeley ruining the space and positioning the receiver was enjoying which made me pass to him in the first place.

This makes playing extremely frustrating, since I can't string together any good offensive plays because of having to run back for the ball all the time.

Any suggestions?

I'm gunna state the obvious first....

try holding down the pass button for longer to make a pass....this'll make it more powerful...

and also, when you pick players in your starting line up, check the stats enit

so check short pass accuracy and short pass speed

These can greatly affect the passing speed and obviously accuracy of a players passing ability :)

Ok, I wasn't aware that the passes were sensitive to the amount of time you hold down (X) since this is not mentioned in the manual (i think).

This is my first PES I've bought after getting tired of the FIFA franchise, and I'm still working to get the feel to it. I really appreciate your help. I'll try holding the button longer and see if that solves the problem and I'll let you know.

Sometimes though, holding it down longer will just pass the ball to a player that is farther away. Personally, I haven't noticed this problem, but I'm playing a totally different game - 09 on 360. I didn't notice it in J-League 2008 either though, and that was the last PS2 version I played.

Another option might be to try the manual pass stick. It's not for everyone, but if you're just learning the game, then it might be good to learn it from the beginning (right analog stick to pass).
