Some people said that holding R2 makes a difference for shots outside the box.
This is now a feature in WE9 (and will be in PES5) but some are not sure if it's in PES4.

R1 does nothing.

if you hold up on the d-pad thats what I always use to control my players so dunno if it works on analogue. But if you hold up for shots you can put a lot more power in your shots and they tend to go on target and stay within the hight of the goal therefor scoring a lot more good goals. Also hold up + R1 when heading it improves headers dramaticaly
