slide card help

i know this is a subject that has been posted a lot, but i couldn't find any threads that were specific enough....

i am trying to get my slide card to work properly, and its being quite difficult for me. everyone else talks about how easily their slide card works, and how its a breeze. when i latch on, the tray is just flat stuck, i have taken the cover off and checked to make sure the cd tray slides in and out properly, and it does, except sometimes it locks in the back. i have not once been able to get the tray to pop out a small amount so that i could pull the tray out gently as the directions explain..... i am quite firm with it, but i'm afriad if i try to get too rough i'll damage something.... i suppose i could jsut get a flip top now that i've taken the cover off, but i dont' really want to spend more money. any help appreciated.... i feell like a fool because everyone else seems to have no difficulty with it....

am i correct in assuming that the line of ridges under the cd tray is what the card is supposed to catch on? because that is what i am catching when i try, but to get it to move, i feel i'll have to really rip at it.... it just won't budge.

right the instructions are crap

You dont have to be firm with it at all

when u are opening the tray just put the card in under the tray until it sits nicely at the left hand side, move it to the right and you will feel like you are touching something somewhere in the middle of the tray - try and catch it and move it to the right.... it will take u awhile but sit with it for an hour

its not something you can easily tell someone how to do it, just sit and try and try, you'll get the hang of it and you'll be like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH thats it,

They're hilarious - I loved the line saying 'Do not worry if you break the clips, super glue can fix this!'. :D

"Just close your eyes and feel the force, Luke"?

akk423,
You've probably done the hardest part - removing the tray cover and putting the screw back. I had trouble at first because I left the sliding rod loose, when it should be held in place by the screw. That buggered up my console's eject mechanism entirely until it was put back in place.

If the instruction below don't work, this might be where the problem is, what 'locks' in the back?

Slide 1
Anyway, assuming the eject mechanism does work properly in normal use, slip the slide card in on the left, slide it to the right and about halfway across you start to bump into what I assume is the tray-release on the eject mechanism.

On this first slide, I find it easier to turn the card slightly (anti-clockwise) at this point so that it's little hook is a bit further inside the machine. That way it seems to release the tray. Once I feel a slight 'click', the tray shifts out a few millimetres, and your slide tool can slide to the far-right side of the tray, fitting snuggly in the right hand corner.

Pull out the tray using the tool, it should move easily but there is a slight 'drag'. Once I can get hold of the right-corner, I use my fingers to help pull the tray out the whole way. The first-time you get this far, note where the slide-tool is holding the underside of the tray, that's the position you've got to aim for and knowing where it is will help you get the knack of it. (Switch the disks, and push the tray back by pressing on the left-corner.)

Slide 2
The second slide starts the same as the first, but again I find it easier when I turn the tool slightly to get it a bit deeper into the console. Again, the tray should move out a little as you move to the right, then make sure you've gone as far as you can to the right.

To 'close' the tray, you have to drag the mechanism back to it's original position. I guess that's what the little hook is for and the 'tool' is all about getting that hook to connect properly. You should feel a distinct 'drag' from the movement of the mechanism your pulling as you slide back to the left, but you won't have force it to move.

You'll get about 2cm from the left corner of the tray, but if you've done the second slide correct (you'll know if you feel that 'drag'), and gone as far to the left as you can, then hit the button on your controller. If the screen background goes red/pink the tray hasn't been closed properly by the second slide action, if it turns blue, you're up and running.

alright, well i am officially declaring it legal for all flames to be posted on this thread towards me, the daft american. i had my slide card upside down, yes, that's right.... upside down.

i would say that i tried to unsuccessfully use the card about 100 times with it upside down... and the very first time i flipped it over... it worked.

so i'm not sure if i'm happy that it really was easy and that makes me not an idiot, or if i'm just a complete idiot for it being upside down.

i suppose i never thought about it because in the instructions, it only shows the card inserted under the tray.... so there's no way to tell which way to hold the card.

really its a damn miracle that i didn't destroy my playstation yanking on it the wrong way so many times.... (i did open her up and fiddle around with the parts, and i am quite familiar with the inner workings of the cd tray area now :D )

the thing that actually tipped me off was in celleni's last post, he said that turning the card counter clockwise would get the hook further in there.... when the card is upside down, only a clockwise turn would do that.

anyway, flame away.... for i am feeling quite foolish now.

:D Well if I spout off enough nonsense, some of it might just happen to be right.

LOL

that guide sucks though, i read it a thousand times. it may seem elemetery that i didn't know which direction to flip the card, but those types of things should be most important in directions.

mate just spend time getting how the feel of the things works, it will come in time, and its not as simple as that video would suggest I wish. Either that just get a flip top aswell, thats what I did and I'm glad I did.

oh its not a problem. i didn't need any time at all.

i got it on my first try. AFTER i figured out that the hook should be on the right, i had it flipped upside down. it's quite easy once that is cleared up.

thats what pissed me off about the directions. that simple declaration should be made in the directions.

the slide card does not work on V9 silver satin (PAL) unless you chip off a small part underneth the disc tray which i dont recomend. and sony have made the two rectangles parts on the side very loose.
