Slowdown...

I've tried all sorts of solutions for the slowdown and only one of them worked for me... disabling the sound card. Without the soundcard the game runs at 1280x1024 (windowed) at high details with absolutely no slowdown at all. But this isn't really the answer, because the sound is important. But this makes me wonder whether it really is the commentary that's slowing my game down, even though I had it disabled. Because the demo (without commentary) for worked perfectly for me, as the full version does with the sound disabled.

So I've been attempting to remove the commentary files but it isn't that simple. It seems if I want to remove them all I have to set the size of each file (and there's 1000's of them) to 0. But this will take days and I wouldn't be sure whether it would solve my problems or not. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to remove the commentary files?

I´m not a PC-expert but what I know is that some sound-cards, especially the on-board cards, are taking memory from your RAM, simply said. That´s why you have slowdowns when your sound card is activated and can play without problems when the sound-card is disabled. Try to set the hardware-acceleration to standard in the Direct-X audio settings.

That's a good point. I have a very basic on board sound card. I am sure that if I get an external one that the game will be at least that little bit faster. But what I don't understand is that the demo for me worked so smooth even with the sound card.

I think I'll definitely look around for a decent external sound card.

NOPE, I have the same problem with a Sound Blaster Live! 1024 - 4.1.

Your system is probably to weak, don't blame your sound card for everything ;)
On-board sound cards take memory from your RAM, that's a fact :)

I got a non-onboard sound card today and to be honest, it didn't make the slightest bit difference. I now think that it really is the commentary files which is slowing it down somehow, because the demo worked perfectly.

It also didn´t work for me, but for many other people, eg Jag. We have to try everything, and if it helps a few people then it was worth the effort.
I know that there were stutters on the console version when the commentary was on, but when you turned it off everything was fine. The same should be with the PC version, if the commentary is off and you have slowdowns it´s not because of the commentary ;)

Solved

I solved that problem with the double speed patch (Parche_jugadores_reales_by_rucho.rar at em... or something similar) or by buying the double speed option at PesShop.

Also with an GF 440 MX the game works great on 1024xmax ;)

That is definitely not the solution for me. The game (as it suggests) goes twice as fast as it's meant to most of the time and runs at a normal speed where the slow-downs occured.

Anyway, I have tried just about every solution there is. I think my last option will be to delete all the commentary files, even if it does take me several hours. Because for me the demo worked fine... but the full version does. The difference? The commentary of course and some different stadiums/conditions. If only they had released this game without the commentary then I would be very, very happy. The demo ran like a dream for me with absolutely superb graphics. These slow-downs are the only thing stopping this game from being 100% perfect. Even with the slowdowns though I am addicted to it.

I am running Windows 98 and still get the slowdown. Also, I tried the priority thing and it didn't seem to make a difference. Thanks for the suggestions though.

not the best way but maybe a fixed/cracked exe will help you!

This is only for Win XP

Yeah, but I got a task manager program which allowed me to set the priorities.

Somehow my PES version is cracked, probably after I installed a patch, so that's not the answer either. :(

I tried that too and with the latest version the game didn't load. But with an older version it did load but it just ran slower. :(

I just got the game, and I think I may have the same problem you have with slowdown, but until I saw this thread I thought it was done by the devlopers on purpose.

For me, the game only slows down on corner kicks and goal kicks (when the camera pans out). I ran FRAPS while playing, and the framerate was locked at 60 fps until a corner kick or goal kick, and then it would drop down to exactly 43 fps.

I thought this might have been done on purpose by the developers to give you time to decide what to do while the ball was in the air. It's pretty much identical to the "slowdown" that occurs during replays, right as the ball is passing the net. I assume the replay slowdown is supposed to be there.

Everybody on the field could be in the box during regular play, and there is no slowdown.

So, could you clarify as to when exactly your game slows down, so I know if I have the same problem? If I've got slowdown, it's completely unacceptable, because I have excellent specs (see below).

P4 3.2 GHz
1 GB RAM
Radeon 9800XT
Windows XP Professional

I've installed the latest patch. I'm running it at 1280 X 1024, but when I tried it at 1024 X 768, FRAPS reported exactly the same fps results (60 and 43).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Those FPS you got are just about exactly the same as mine... and my computer is:

Pentium 1.5Ghz
256 MB RAM
Radeon 9600Pro
Win98 SE

Running at 1024x768 on low details.

The slow down is not intended by the developers. The PS2 version runs at the same speed throughout which is what the PC version is meant to do.

But what is very frustrating is that the speed of the game depends on the frame rate. Most games run at the same speed whether it's 10 FPS or 80 FPS. But this game wants to run at 60 FPS all the time for it to run correctly, which is what the PS2 version does. Even 40 FPS is a very acceptable frame rate for me... I'll take anything over 30 FPS to be honest. So if this game ran at the same speed despite the frame rate then it would be a top notch game and would run very well even on not the best machines.

yep, the real problem is that Konami just didn't program the game for PC at all...I hope they release a new patch soon which sets game speed first and then just gives you as many frames per second as your hardware can cope with, rather than the way it currently insists on 60 frames per 'game' second.

and on that note, for people who's machines are really struggling to run the game even on the lowest settings, try downloading an option file with the 'double speed' unlocked, as this makes the game play faster by removing half the frames (which means the animation isn't as silky smooth) and the game runs a lot better on 'duff' PCs.
