So i'll be doing an option file to improve the gameplay

This option file will be for the PS3 version of the game.

Hi i'm new here. Basically i was a life long PES fan until Fifa09 came out. Loved that game so i bought Fifa10 but the amount of editing it required to make the game enjoyable was a bit of a joke. So i sacked it off and bought PES10.

Initial thoughts are good. It's enjoyable but there are a few problems (which i've listed below)with the gameplay which can hopefully be altered with a few tweaks to player attributes...

Problems

  • The game is too fast - the ball travels too fast/players run too fast.
  • There's an overwhelming clumsiness to the game
  • There is still a slight delay when pressing a button.
  • Passes don't seem to go to the intended recipient

Whilst the game is capable of producing brilliant moments i found a lot of the time i was left being slightly frustrated. Anyway i felt the same with Fifa10 so i decided to do a few edits which dramatically improved the game. The problem was, editing took too long, whereas with PES it's much quicker.

What editing have i done then? (PS3)
Basically all i have done is the same as i did for Fifa10.

I've lowered top speed and acceleration by 20 points and i've lowered short pass speed by 10-15 points.

Results (PS3)

Surprise surprise (not really) it's improved the gameplay no end. Just like it did with Fifa. However, on a slower pace PES10 plays much, much better than Fifa10 does.

What test have i done? (PS3)

I tried lowering passing by 30 points (this is what i did with Fifa) but i found with PES that it resulted in short passes bouncing around a lot. It stopped the game from flowing as players were constantly trying to get the ball under control because of the excessive bouncing (which was weird). So basically i decided to just lower short passing speed by 10-15 depending on the player.

Combined with the reduced player speed, this resulted in the most impressive gameplay i've probably ever seen from a football sim. Everything is more measured, the slight button delay doesn't matter as players don't cover ground as quickly, Passing feels perfect and has a higher success rate (in the sense that it goes to the correct player rather than a different team-mate). The clumsy feel to the game seems to have almost disappeared.

I actually feel genuinely excited about PES again so over so i'm going to tweak everyone's attributes. Firstly i'm going to wait til i get a final option file before i continue with the edits, but once i do them i will be putting the file on here for download.

In the meantime i seriously recommend somebody give this a shot. Just edit 2 teams. It will literally take 5 minutes, and basically just see what you think. Please leave feedback in this thread along with any friendly advice that i can implement into the edit.

:)

I was hoping someone would do this! I just hope you're on the PS3..

And you say you're waiting for the final option file? Is this the official Konami one that will fix the transfers?

Yeah i'm on PS3. I need to edit it into the OP actually.

Yeah i'm waiting for the one from WENB site. I'm not sure if it's the Konami one. Basically it's up to date transfers, kits, plus added Bundesliga teams.

I have to wait otherwise my option file will just get overwritten when i download a new one...i think.

I've been doing this as well, except I've lowered Top Speed, Dribble Speed, Short pass Speed and Long pass Speed by -5 on all players from a few teams. It improves the game, not so arcadey ping pong. I'm still looking for the right balance with how much too take off the speed attributes, but in my opinion it's noticeably better when it's slowed down a little. I'm also waiting for a definitive option file before I do every player!
Also I've boosted the keepers + 5 in Defence, Jump and Goalkeeping Skills, it's fixed the crappy goalkeeper problem

Yeah i improved the keepers a bit aswell. Given did seem to pull off some right saves actually. Lol the speed just comes down to what you prefer i guess

I'l try a few more permutations, and I'l try what you've done jonny5985. I think the Acceleration attribute is how quick it takes a player to reach his top speed, not necessarily a speedy attribute if his Top Speed is lowered, does lowering the Acceleration as well improve the gameplay?

It seems reaction is the attribute that determines how quickly a player reaches top speed (i think).

Not sure how different this is from acceleration to be honest. You may well be right. I'll probably give it a try without reducing acceleration to see how it compares. :)

At the moment I'm busy editing all the Champions League teams squads by the method I've been using so far for a tourney tomorrow :shocking:
So I'l get that done first, then I'l experiment with different tweaks. I had a Piggyback guide to PES a couple of years back that explained what each attribute influenced, I'l see if I can dig it up somewhere :)
It'l be a mammoth task then editing all the players after everything else is sorted with an option file :dribble:

I don't think it will take that long to be honest. I started doing it on Fifa but the delay between menu's is a joke so it practically took half hour to do one team.

I managed to do City and Arsenal last night in the space of about 5 minutes. So with that in mind, i'd reckon it would take 40-60 mins per league

It would be great if you could dig that out mate, It would help us loads.

Found it! I'l post it up after this post, it'l take a while to type up. It's from the Piggyback Official Guide to PES 2008. If anyone remembers these guides, they were in depth guides to pretty much everything in PES, written by Pro Evo experts, with help and contributions from the PES development team. Unfortunately, they don't have a guide for PES 2010. So, I'l just type up the Player Ability guide verbatim

PIGGYBACK OFFICIAL GUIDE TO PES 2008, PLAYER ABILITIES *(Remember, this is from the guide to PES 2008)

KA= Key Attribute for. UA= Useful attribute for
ATTACK (KA) CF, SS. (UA) WF, AMF, CMF, SMF
As new abilities have been added to the PES series, the Attack rating - once an umbrella attribute that represented many different player characteristics - has decreased in importance. In PES 2008, it's primary function is as an indicator of how well an attacker can resist the attentions of his marker.
DEFENCE (KA) CB. (UA) DMF, SB
The higher this stat is, the better and faster a player is at performing challenges and sliding tackles. With the latter, it also has an influence on how quickly a player can get to his feet.
BODY BALANCE (KA) CB, CF. (UA) All Players
Body Balance roughly equates to strength in PES 2008. A vital attribute in defenders, but useful throughout your team, it enables players to withstand and apply physical pressure. A player with high Body Balance is much more likely to stay on his feet.
STAMINA (KA) All Players
Determines how quickly a player will tire. The higher the value is, the greater his endurance will be.
TOP SPEED (KA) All Players.
The higher this value is the greater a players running speed will be when he is not dribbling the ball.
ACCELERATION (KA) All Players.
How quickly a player can reach his top speed.
RESPONSE (KA) GK, CB, CF (UA) All Players
This is a very important attribute. Response indicates how quickly a player thinks: players with high levels will collect more loose balls, intercept more passes, and be better at getting in to position for shots and headers. For CPU controlled players (including goalkeepers) this can be said to show how fast a player's reflexes are.
AGILITY (KA) - (Blank) (UA) Creative Players
Agility determines how quickly a player performs kicks, tricks and general movements. The higher it is, the more rapidly he will perform them. This is especially noticeable with first-time kicks and passes.
DRIBBLE ACCURACY (KA) SMF, AMF, WF. (UA) All Players
Players with high Dribble Accuracy are adept at moving with the ball at their feet. They touch the ball more frequently as they move, keeping it close, which enables them to move with greater speed and precision; it also makes them harder to tackle.
DRIBBLE SPEED (KA) All Attacking Players. (UA) All Players
How quickly a player can move with the ball at his feet.
SHORT PASS ACCURACY (KA) Midfielders (UA) All Players
How precisely a player can make passes along the ground.
SHORT PASS SPEED (KA) Midfielders. (UA) All Players.
Dictates the speed at which a players short passes will move.
LONG PASS ACCURACY (KA) SMF, WF. (UA) All Players.
How well a player can make airborne passes to a team mate. Naturally, this ability is massively important for players who are expected to regularly perform crosses.
LONG PASS SPEED (KA) SMF, WF. (UA) All Players
The higher this total is, the better general speed of long passes and crosses will be.
SHOT ACCURACY (KA) CF, SS. (UA) WF, All Midfielders.
If a player makes a good, clean connection with the ball while making an attempt on goal, his Shot Accuracy influences how precise his aim will be.
SHOT POWER (KA) CF, SS. (UA) CB, All Midfielders.
The higher a players shot power, the more venom he can pack in to an attempt on goal. This is also of relevance to defenders and goalkeepers: a higher rating means that they can clear the ball more efficiently.
SHOT TECHNIQUE (KA) CF, SS. (UA) All Midfielders
This parameter defines how well a player can strike the ball when making a shot. It also determines how well a player can shoot while under pressure from an opponent, or when twisting to kick the ball at goal from an awkward angle.
FREE KICK ACCURACY (KA) Blank, (UA) Attacking Players
The higher this value, the more accurate a player's free kicks. Other attributes have a big influence on free kicks, particularly Swerve.
SWERVE (KA) Set Piece Takers
Determines how much curve a player can apply to a free kick or corner. One thing that you might not realise, however, is that this value also dictates how well a player can make the ball drop after it clears the defensive wall. A player with high Free Kick Accuracy but poor swerve may be able to clear the wall and send his kick in the right direction from sub-25 yard distances, but the ball will rarely dip sufficiently to trouble the goalkeeper.
HEADER (KA) CB, CF. (UA) All Players.
At high levels, both passing headers and headers aimed at goal will be much more accurate.

MORE TO FOLLOW. I'm having a problem staying connected to the site, so I'll try to keep adding to it

hows it coming along?
i tested a match with speed and acc. down 20 and short pass speed down 10.
it felt maybe too slow and in 2 games against com they both ended 0-0, but i havent had chance to test it against another player yet.
response and acc. are described the same in the editing screen so i wonder what the difference is? surely response=reaction?
