Some questions/ complaints about the game

I know, there seems to be a lot of them in this forum.

Anyway, I have been playing the game since xmass, mostly play online because I don't like to dedicate a lot of time to the game, since there are other things in life. This is my first PES game, since WE 9 from 2006 I think. I played fifa 09 and 10 online last few years, but I got bored of them, because it was kind of too easy or too hard to beat other people online.

I am rambling now...back to my question about pes 11...is this game expecting me to know how it generally works, since most of you people have been playing it for years? Is there an easy way to train and practice, other than free practice? WE9 had some basic moves you could practice.

I almost always play with Milan cause I have been a fan since 88 when the Dutch trio was unstoppable, so I am not going to change my team often. But I notice that my winning streak goes in cycles...for a few games, all my players play well together, I make them do what I want. After winning a few, they go back to being retarded and having Messi or Ronaldo score 3-4 a game, making me lose my mind. How is that possible? Is there some sort of team performance online, that I need to switch teams often to maintain top form?

Than there is favoritism from the referee for Barcelona and Real Madrid...big time...same foul I commit with Milan against Barca is punishable by red card, when they do it to me its merely a foul. I have played with Barca sometimes, and when I foul my opponenet, refs are more forgiving...this is driving me nuts.

I am at the point I am getting to the point that I hate Ronaldo or Messi (who is a great player by the way) when I watch them play in real life, I can't stand them anymore...gotta blame PES for that one.

What's with the cursor switching, players missing the ball, late runs, uhm non existant offsides, inability to come back from a 2-0 loss again Real Madrid?

So many other things that are making the game hard to enjoy for me. What do you people who enjoy it get out of it? Share some tips please

As mentioned a million times... I believe to keep things interesting (Hmmm!), Konami have implemented a handicap/momentum system that takes place during all matches, online or P1 vs P2 head-to-head.

This will sometimes 'gel' your players and they will be capable of doing many great things, it also has the ability to give your players the 'glue', where your team plays "retarded".

I have played over 1500 matches (MLO) and it is so obvious, it stares me right in the face and there is virtually nought I can do about it!

The momentum/handicapping idea in principle is good, but unfortunately on this version of the game it is far to pronounced. It overpowers absolutely everything. The form of your player, the attributes of your players, their stamina, your individual skill as a user, all of these things are irrelevent when the konami AI decides you will lose or win. I believe this is why the triple-tap circle goals are so popular, even if your team is suffering the glue you can still score this way!

To conclude. A friend of mine has played PES2011 since release, he is a good 'D-pad' player sits in DIV2 in MLO. He played a P1 vs P2 exhibition match against another friend that doesn't play football games. Des[pite absolutely dominating the match he lost 1-0 to someone who has never played the game before. It was not a lack of skill on his part, it was the AI that caused the result, many missed shots, bad refferee decisions, scripted freekick into the top corner from an utter newbie!!

Don't get angry as you lose, and don't gloat if you win, you only win becasue the AI allows you ;)

Thanks for the reply.

I have been reading more on this forum and seems like the script is a real issue. I wasn't sure before, but I kinda sensed it that something wasn't right with the way players moved.

And it totally sucked...I don't know why even bother with the momentum crap. Sure some teams have momentum in real life, but when they play against AC Milan, Milan hardly ever gets retarded when facing Barcelona.

So is this scripting determined before you play the game? Or is it determined based on how you play the game? In other words, is there a way you can affect it and change it to your advantage?

I completely agree with you guys and have given some thought on this topic myself. There is definetely a handicap/momentum issue in PES 2011. I have been playing the Konami series since ISS from Super Nintendo and this issue was never that permanent. It drives me nuts to play against newbies and have like a 6-4 record out of 10 games where I should have like a 9-1 or even 10-0. This handicap issue even discourages me to choose teams like Villareal, Porto or Galatasaray against my friends' Barca, Real Madrid or Milan. I always enjoy to be the underdog and force myself as it improves my game, but with the handicap and my inferior team, I can easily end up with a losing streak. Konami should definetely do something about this in PES 2012 because it takes away my will to practice to become better in the game and force you into a "triple-tap circle goal player" which is not real football.

One thing I have noticed and just made a post about it that if you check your man markings before a game starts, you notice some wierd matchings like all your team marking a left-back defender or a right midfielder. I have a feeling those are set up to be the handicapped games against you. I couldn't find a way to cancel man markings and play a zone defence so I check and assign markings more logically before each game. In my opinion, assigning logical markings has lowered my rate of losing to inferior teams or players in MLO and I can at least defend and get a tie out of those obviously handicapped games. I feel like wrong man-markings are not the only way to correct the handicap, but feels almost like half of it. In any case, its very wierd of Konami to set random man-markings before games and not have the option to zone defence. In most cases you get your whole team marking the most upfront forward which is wierd as well cause why would my forward be man-marking the opponent forward? So please give 5-6 games to understand my point.

Please try my case and share your opinions on my finding.

As far as the refs goes they seem to give decisions based on momentum, its all well and good KONAMI trying to be realistic with this but when the refs miss blatant decisions and are also worse than pes 3 refs it leaves you scratching your head. In real life we see how momentum can effect decisions and konami have tried to replicate this, the game also tries to replicate the flow of a real match, maybe too artificially at times.

I get constant enjoyment and frustration from the game, I love the fact this game is made for the hardcore, but maybe at times the game can get lost under the vast myriad of controls, Close control is vital to this game, first touch by being gentle on the analog is also key and there is so much more to discover. I enjoy the game more than I did a few months ago, the pressure gets on my tits though.

Strangely enough the ref is more likely to give you a free kick if you perform a feint or about to perform another input, anyone else noticed this?

Thanks everyone who's responded, just typing here it's made me feel better, since I know it is not just me who's experiencing these issues and I am less frustrated.

Lately, I have been selecting Napoli as my main team, not Milan. I mentioned I don't use any user kits (don't know how) and have done minimum tweaking to the game, and only play online (not masterleague)

So the initial frustration of seeing Ibrahimovic being stopped every time by Pyoul has been replaced with the joy of watching Lavezzi break through Barca defense like it was the easiest thing in the world. It added a bit more fun to the game, but it's still frustrating as hell to watch some of my players move away from the ball, not toward it.

Someone please explain to me, why Napoli players better than Milan against Barca? That makes no sense whatsoever, anyone who knows anything about football knows that.

Cinbombom, I haven't been able to find where the man marking are on the menu, and I quit looking for it, so I have not been able to find them.

SDP, the ref calls are ridiculous in this game, FIFA had better advantage rule than this one has. Plus, any attempt to faul CRonaldo or Messi results in a yellow/ red card, while the same is not for the other team.

So check this out: Seedorf is on the goal line during a corner kick I think, and he ends up scoring, literally the ball bouncing off of him and in the net.. opposition defender slide tackles him from behind, at the same time he scored...Ref called for a penalty, nevermind I had just scored. And of course because I am playing against Barcelona, the player who tackled me doesn't even get a card...go figure...
