For the first time since PES has been on next gen consoles it's finally become playable again. I have always bought PES every year since the ISS series on PSone, but since PES 6 have found it unplayable. It's lacked in gameplay, which is obviously the most important thing and also what made it so good earlier in the series. I bought PES 2012 without really expecting much, and after a couple of games I realised that finally PES are starting to get back on track. For the first time in years I've been playing games and enjoying them, it's starting to remind me of the old PES, where it's all about the gameplay, and what I mean is that every game you play is different, every game is unique. You could have a stale boring 0-0 game in one match, then the next you could have a thrilling 4-2 end to end game for 90 mins. This is unlike all the rest of the Pro Evo games since PES 6 where every game feels stale, repeatative, and just horrible and boring to play. Yet people are complaining more than ever about PES 2012, I just don't get it.

Some of the most common complaints:

Shooting - You can't aim. Shot's go straight to the keeper. Shots feel weak.
Passing - Through balls don't work. Passes don't go to the player i pass to.
Goalkeepers - Goalkeepers suck.
Defending - You can't defend. The computer just runs straight through my defence. Defenders position themselves like retards.

My honest review on these issues:

Shooting - I admit, at times, shot's can feel a little awkward, you'll slightly tap the shoot button and a shot will sail over the bar from a few yards out, shot's can go straight at the keeper, and it doesnt always go where you want it to go. But you know what, I'm not the greatest PES player and even I have scored some great goals, whether it be a 25 yard screamer, a beautiful little dink over the keeper, or a perfectly timed cross and header into the corner. Every goal I score feels great and I get satisfaction from it, which I wouldnt get if everytime i shot went perfectly into the corner. I can have a game where nothing is going in, and missing absolute sitters, and games where every shot i hit is flying in or forcing the keeper to make world class saves, it relates to real life, and also shooting in the style of that particular player. The one negative tho, i believe the power bar is way too sensitive, and hope it soon goes back to how it used to be where you had more control of the power of your shot, like the earlier PES games.

Passing - I struggled with the passing at first, and still do, it doesn't always go where you want it, but why should it, why should you be able to play perfect passes all the time. It makes you apprieciate those players with the better passing abilities. And slow down, put a foot on the ball and time your passes, then it feels nice, the ball does go where you want it to. Through balls are difficult but not impossible, in fact if you take your time, look for the right opportunities, playing the perfect through ball is amazing on this PES, and gives great satisfaction when you pull it off. It works because of the improved AI this year, those players running through and finding the space.

Goalkeepers - I've seen so many people complaining about the keepers but I find it bullshit. I seriously don't see the problem with the goalkeeping this year. Obviously PES is well known for it's dodgy goalkeeping bugs etc. but this year I don't see it, and i actually think the keepers are amazing. I've seen alot of great saves, great double saves, and even the one great triple save, also seen saves where they'll just get a toe or finger tip to it, but not enough to keep the ball out of going into the back of the net. Goalkeeper complaints are the one thing that's pissing me off as I do not see anything negative about them.

Defending - So many people moaning about the defending. Really? Is defending that bad? or is defending great on PES 2012? I think it's great, I feel in total control when defending, i feel like the CPU defenders position themselves great, and for the first time in any football game ever, i actually have no complaints/problems with defending. I think it's been improved immensely. And for those moaning that they cant tackle the computer, the computer just running throught their defense etc. Well maybe just be more patient and time it a bit more when trying to steal the ball off them or going in for a tackle. If you really hate PES 2012 defeding i suggest you have a couple of games on FIFA 12 world class or legendary level, see what the defending is like on there, then come back onto PES 2012 and I guarentee your opionion of the defending will change and you will apprieciate it.

Overall PES 2012 is a very good game, it's improved greatly, it's fun to play. It's not perfect, and could be better in many minor ways. But the complaining about it is just becoming ridiculous. I give it an overall rating of 8.8/10 which is a giant improvement on the last few.

finally someone with some common sense, i admit the games not perfect but its defo the best pes yet, yes there could be a few improvements, tbh i think some people are not being patient enough with the game, once you get used to the game its fucking brilliant.

as the op said the games are never the same there always different, what i like about the game is that its not easy u cant just run from one end to the other and score you gotta be smart and patient which makes scoring so much more rewarding

yes i have to admit proffesional and top player the cpu will cheat you out of most things but!

superstar level is brilliant games always open, u never get cheated out of anything

nice post. i got fed up with pes and tried fifa wanting to like fifa but its just boring.
anyway back to your post. i read that people want to go back to pre patch because the keepers are rubbish and the computer gives you more time on the ball lol

its as if people want easy games. I love playing online aganst people who are barcelona real madrid. im always spurs and when i do get a result i know i done well . you defend for your lives when ronaldo gets the ball.

my master league offline is not goin to well. im thinking of doing sumthing i havent done in years and thats dropping down a level.

top player so hard im having heskey run through my defence lol.

so ill think ill go down to pro level

what settins do everyone else use

PEs 2010 and 2011 were very playable too, this version seems to have combined some aspects from both and added to them.

I have to admit I play on 'professional' level, like you i always like to play on the top level but sometimes you just have to say it's just too hard. I find professional is the perfect level for me, and makes for more realistic matches, it's a challenge, but I can still create good chances after some nice play. I win more than i lose on professional, but if i don't play well then i will lose.

This might sound dumb but what is 'Superstar' level? Is it the one you unlock? In that case isn't it more difficult than the 'Top Player' level? Because I find 'Professional' is a good enough challenge for me?

Well done my friend, If everything was to easy it would be called fifa!
I have a problem shooting but its prob me more than anything. The keepers are fine in my opinion, Passing not a problem for me.
When i score it feels great!
Just needs some online partitioning...(Random game online with the option to swerve top teams)

through balls are improved greatly. They are there we just can't hoar them over and over anymore which is good. good AI on defense steps in front of them, but as MozzyEng is quoted above, better AI player movement including diagonal movement makes a good placed through ball more enjoyable.

I'm struggling with the game regular to easy pro to hard in master league but ok in exhibition wish I coul find a level in between and when I play online I lose every time by 1 goal it's frustrating but still enjoy the game wish the graphics could be like 2010 though with the camera more zoomed in the current wide cam is a joke

For me the most obvious (and only main) issue I have is with this stupid AI cheating....the unstoppable goals that you know are coming your way.

For me this breaks the game...everything else is perfect but cheating AI just sucks.

And no its not a question of "learning to play". We complain when online players cheat but excuse the AI for doing the same thing. If Konami had stopped wasting time playing with their dicks instead of programming some decent, cunning, crafty and realistic AI instead of going into auto-score mode the game would be perfect.

You forgot (by accident :innocent:) to say a word about super fast game speed which annoys many many players.

I did not believe it, but I think the game clicked with me. I started to like new defending system because it makes you think and plan your defense actions. You can control 2 players at once, which is useful if you can handle that. It is a lot of joy to intercept and time tackles in this Pes. I also got used to the speed at 0 and find it fine and I can build up and do swift attacks. I find the game plays best at professional with a good team and at regular with a weaker team (starting ML). Sometimes AI is playing on drugs but surprisingly it is possible to prevent it from scoring and the "cheating" aspect feels less of an issue then with pes 2011. May be people who used to play at top player and complain should drop a level or even two to start enjoying it. Shooting sometimes is a bit awkward but I think they tried to go for realism here. In pes 2011 there were many situations where a player would pull off a good shot while he was not really positioned well. It might be a little too much in this pes though. But overall the game in offline is actually more fun then 2011.

I'm really enjoying the game, and I can forgive all of the flaws. Except shooting. My favorite way to score is the perfectly weighted through ball to RvP, who blasts it into the lower corner of the net. I can't do this on the game though, I'm coming in for the 1v1, I hold R2, push the analogue stick all the way up or down, then shoot, and it goes straight to the keeper. Incredibly frustrating.

I'm sorry I have to be once again the ever-positive guy about pes

For me the most obvious (and only main) issue I have is with this stupid AI cheating....the unstoppable goals that you know are coming your way.

Last year AI cheating was imo even worse. So like in topic PES is going in the right direction.

Sometimes AI is playing on drugs but surprisingly it is possible to prevent it from scoring and the "cheating" aspect feels less of an issue then with pes 2011. Hallelujah, these are truly the words of truth in my opinion hit the top of the nail here in everything. Couldn't approve more.
