What i do is when i have the ball and i see player comming towards me i let him come quite close then hold r1 then direction it sort of knocks the ball past and he starts running at speed. Also try and improve your 1..2 game. Pass and move.

Flip-Flap is the key

hehe, it does work suprisingly well.

Read some of the forums about doing tricks. Doesn't have to be stupid off the wall tricks.. just simple jinks and shoulder drops. Obviously the game isn't going to make it as simple as to press slightly away from the defender to beat them. It is mainly about drawing the defender into a tackle/challenge and at last moment jinking away from them.

Easiest methods i use:

Shot fake: Square->X
Shoulder drop: Whilst running left to right, Rotate d-pad/analogue stick from Right to diagonal down-right to diagonal up-right.

Also the 360 seems to work a bit too often. (360 degree spin on analogue stick)

There are around a dozen moves which vary in usefulness for PES5, check the forums under like Hints n Tips for everyones tips on moves and how to do them.

How can it be the key when only about a dozen players can do the move?

And it doesn't always go right for those that can do it too ... which can be a bit :w00t

FIFA 98 had the best tricks

It certainly did... i still play occasionaly for the indoor stadium, you can really pull off some nice moves.

The sidestep is a very easy way to beat defenders... also in and around goal i find it easy to create space if you press r2, to turn and face the defender then just knock it to one side as he approaches... also good to get off a quick shot in a tight space.

try and draw the tackle in and then quickly go round the player, works a treat with ronaldinho

One that works online for me is, running at pace (R1) + varying it abit at jogging pace, then soon as opponent comes near quickly press R2 and a change of direction. Works wonders if done correcltly.
