I bought the game three days before Christmas, everything was ok, I downloaded Option File, edited much faces and played some matches in online. I thought it is really great new PES, but after I unlocked original lineups and started to play Master League. Animations, atmosphere, players faces, all that is great like it was great in last PES, but shoots and defending, that is fuckin' terrible. Shooting is just lottery, i tried so many tips from forums, but nothing could help. I could tolerant stupid and hard defending, unbeaten PC which players are all Messi, but I can't tolerant stupid shooting. That's not fun.
I want to love PES, really, but buy it and not FIFA was a mistake. Fifa is boring in offline and haven't CL, but have 'normal things' in gameplay...

Shooting is not that terrible, it's harder to score this year, you should try pressing '' R2 + square ''

As for defending press '' R2 + X '' release the R2 when your opponent is close enough ( i don't release the R2 )

If you have any mid-range curlers in your team, use r2 and shoot and that will just curl anywher you want. If you don't, it'll still work but not as effective

Hang in there man, I know exactly how you feel. I struggled just like you not until I learn to use the R2 button properly. More often then not I hit the sweet spot using the R2 + [] . I am so confident now I literally take shots from 20 to 30 meters out. You are not going to be successful on every shot but you do enjoy the follow up by your other players closest to the rebound ball.

shooting in this game is just shit, over the Christmas period i was playing alot of fifa with my friends, and as much as i hate to admit it, fifa's shooting is miles ahead of PES. It goes where you aimed, AND the power bar reflects how hard the shots are.
I've played PES/WE for 10 years now, and I'm one of the top players in MLO, yet i find myself finishing around 30% of my 1v1s with the keeper.

FIFA's shooting is brilliant....if you want to wait five seconds to actually trigger the shot off that is. For me the shooting is a minor problem in PES 2012, it depends how you look at it. I have taken a fresh philosophy on this, and can say that with certain players anything is possible (in terms of direction, power etc etc) and with others the chances of a scuffed or less than accurate shot is more. Which kinda mirrors reality doesn't it?!? I watched the Man City v Liverpool game the other day and even world class players players like Silva etc were hitting shots centrally sometimes, if the variables weren't right to be so accurate.

I DO think though that the shot should go roughly the direction that you point to though and that those shots where you aim bottom left and it goes top right need to be eradicated completely. But like most things, the PC version can be modded and tweaked. I think Yair's latest effort is as good as I've played in terms of physics, animations, shot power, gameplay etc etc.

Fifa DOES NOT HAVE A GREAT SHOOTING SYSTEM. Let me explain.
Don'y get me wrong though I applaud fifa greatly for making user input in the shooting actually valid. I love the fact that the player you're controlling obeys your direction when shooting. That's a great plus. BUT FIFA'S SHOOTING IN ITSELF IS QUITE BROKEN.
Why?
Apart from shooting power, there's NO PLAYER INDIVIDUALITY IN THE SHOTS. Everyone curls the ball like a David Bechkam cross, even defenders. Oh and power shots or driven shots, whatever you want to call them aren't nearly as good as they're supposed to be and the angle of the player in relation to the goal DOES NOT EXIST IN FIFA.

Again though I like the fact that at least in fifa, the player obeys your direction, HOWEVER, you cannot say that the shooting system in fifa is better than that if Pes JUST BECAUSE OF THIS, because fifa's system in itself is just not nearly as good as it is suppose to be and doesn't have enough individuality, so every goal feels the same more or less.

I agree on that one. I'm still still struggling to score from 1v1's. That's why I take long range shots most of the time. I am very successful with that. Either long range or chip shots is the way to go.

^ As you mention chip shots are insanely effective this year on 1-1 situations.
I haven't played that much after the latest patch, but in all the previous patches i could score every time like this: Always be diagonal and not right in front of the keeper.
(ps3) - one diagonal step towards the direction of the players preferred foot and L1 square. Worked everytime against every keeper using any player. Again haven't tried it in the latest patch since i got tired of playing.

The only way to go after the latest patch IS.........and this is how I score 85% of 1on1s...

a) fake the shot, the keeper falls for it 95% of the time if done from the appropriate distance... you either fool him and shoot in the clear net, or get a penalty - or, a defender finally gets you.

b) When near the keeper, use speed burst (R2 + R1), you'll get past the keeper 80% of the time.

So, therefore, if you are completely through, lots of space and only the goalie in your way, fake the shot. If the defenders are still on your back, do the speed burst thing, because you won't have enough time to fool the goalie -> only if you fool him and still go further with the ball, and not sideways, which is quite hard.

Any kind of shooting -- while facing the goalie -- is pure lottery. ;)

@Shaun7

a) I've seen a million times defenders like Gary Cahill curling it in the far corner and trust me it isn't that hard getting clean contact with the inside of the foot and I've seen players like Agbonlahor who has 63 swerve curl it into the corner.

b) Angle and body position to the goal does matter as I've tried it many times shooting from cutting it with players like Kaka and even they slip over and scuff their shots. If you right in front of goal you can apply more power wheras you are limited if your body angle is wrong

I never said that the defenders can't curl a ball, but fifa's finesse shot is ridicules to a point where every payers curls it the same way. That's just wrong. Finesse is overpowered badly too and overall, the balance between finesse and power shots is bad to a pint where finesse outweighs power shots (in terms of goals that you score on fifa) by a pretty big margin.

Fifa's shooting is try that and get that. There's no natural feeling to it. Also body position matters very little. What I mean is that every angle has an outcome and there's no variation at all. In Pes you can score unexpected goals. In Fifa this rarely happens because shooting does not have enough variation to it.

If you've tried L2 before you shoot in FIFA, they release thunderbolts. But I agree obviously that finesse shots are overpowered as its like everyone has mid-range curler

yes of course, fifa's shooting is not perfect(control shot is retarded). but we can still agree that it is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the shooting in pes, right?

I totally agree with you, dribbling the keeper is the easiest way to score 1 vs 1's

plus i do both what you said :D

Obviously, by far. The shooting in PES is too wildly distributed - some days inzaghi can actually score a one on one, most days it is atrociously wide while in FIFA it is more consistent

Hello all! I'm new to the forum. I have tried both PC and XBOX versions of the game and i noticed that there is no problem in shooting in the XBOX version.

However, in PC version my shots go directly to the keeper WHEN SHOOTING FROM MIDDLE. I have tried all the aiming tips people have told here. I have tried pass assistance setting with every 5 options. None helps except one thing, i do the bursting run so the ball is far enough and then shoot and i dont aim anywhere (take my finger off the left stick), then there is just luck factor if the ball goes left/right/middle and usually it goes wide/middle.

If I'm approaching the goal diagonally from the sides, then i can aim the shots to the far corner or the front corner by some weird reason. Also if I run in up/down direction and aim for the far corner, then there is some luck the ball will go to the net.

So for me it seems its only a PC version's problem. Others agree?

I admit I haven't worked out PeS12's shooting system yet. I can run directly at the keeper 10 times in a row in the same game with the same player (Become a legend) and 9 times the ball will fly off at weird angles. Even when I'm not sprinting. It's like the game is scripted to control my shots and decides when I score from a shot.
