The bad reputation of chipping

Hi Guys,

Great website, need some help please.

I'm very seriously considering chipping my ps2 so i can play backups of Pro Evo 3 and winning eleven 8 when it comes out on import.

Anyway, alot of people i have spoken to have all advised against it saying that the fun only lasts a short period of time until your machine decides to die because of the chip.

Can any of you guys advise me on the life expectancy of a chipped console and which is the best chip to get installed.

Cheers

JC

chips are better designed now-a-days so no worry's there, then u have the cheaper option of the swap disks!

Maybe 3 years ago, yeah... but with the current technology - chips working on low voltages, not interferring at all with the laser unit, it is just not possible to damage your system.

Nope... Get that shit installed. :D

The best chip (in my humble opinion) is the DMS3. This chip is very, very good and gives you all the features you would expect, plays back-ups (all), all region (macrovision free) DVD playback etc. The possibility to install HDLoader onto your memory card with a DMS3 chip is also a great plus. This means that if you buy a harddrive and a network adaptor (to hold it in place) you can install all your games onto the harddrive and never have to worry about discs again. Like my good self ;)

chips are fine just make sure the games you get are on good quality cds and dvds else they burn your laser out to quick also burn your games at like 4x just for safty

i had a neo 2 swap chip and that knackered my laser well fast so i swopped to a magic 3 self boot chip and i have had it for ages know and still going strong

DMS3 is probly the best chip going at the min

Some people might have a bad opinion on chipping, but like stated before, now the chips have a higher quality than 2 or 3 years ago, make sure you get the Matrix, DMS or the newest version of the Sniper, then it will be ok. And don´t do it yourself unless you´re an expert in soldering and PS2 technology. It must be done 100% properly otherwise it´s quite likely that your PS2 dies after a few months.
I had a low quality chip in, and let a friend install it, my PS2 worked well for 1 year. Don´t do the same mistake ;)

Cheers for that info guys. How about the Messiah 2 chip? I've heard its the most stable chip on the market, what do you think of it?

The chip we are using in our office and one I can recommend is Mini Apple III Pro. Works great. It is not very popular as it is newer chip and not too many dealers buy it as it is not all that well known but I can tell you that there is no difference between Messiah pro and this one. So if you get chance to get it and want to save some money go for it. It has to be professionaly installed of course. :)

Cheers
