The FIFA effect....

Some of you will remember that I gave my own views on fifa 09 and i gave it a 9.8.

Well...the fifa effect has struck again. Like with every fifa it starts off great. But I have been playing this for 4 days now and I have to admit that its starting to get repetetive. The goals really are all the same and you really cannot score outside of the box.

The first few days I mean the game was simply amazing.....but it seems that thats all it had to offer. It doesnt have the lasting appeal of PES.

I will say this tho: FIFA 09 is better then the PES 2009 DEMO. Im in the usa so i have not played the full version yet, so I will not judge it yet. I did like the demo better then the FIFA 09 demo which was not very good.

Id say the game, FIFA 09, is more like a 8.1 now. It still has that ATMOSPHERE, great stadiums and awesome graphics but....it doesnt last long i guess. IDK what seabass and his ppl do to PES that give it that longevity.

btw off topic.....what are scores like in PES 2009? are they high scoring games or low? In master league and exchibition.

hmm, well I played the FIFA Demo and I prefered PES. I have a few friends that prefered FIFA this year over PES, but after a few days of playing FIFA they got bored of it and traded it in and went back to PES lol.. It made me laugh as they slated PES over FIFA saying it was much better, then a few days later completely reversed their opinions. I wonder how many more people will do this lol..

hehhe it strange man. i mean for 3 days i was so into it and i wondered if konami would ever catch on to this.....but i mean while it is by far the best fifa i believe pes 2009will be better overall in the end?

the results are realistic and fair. in my 3rd season on master league and rarely get the high scoring games... biggest win 3-1, biggest loss, 3-0.... usually 1/2-0 games...

As many have said before Fifa's game play is really good in the first 20 or so times playing it. However after a few weeks of playing it hardcore it becomes so repatative its a joke, you feel like every game just molds in too one and every goal you score feeels the same. I have to say i am a big PES fan and have had every edition since ISS and for me it has always been a better game. I bought PES 2009 last week on releas day and i have to say the first time i play it i was bitterly disapointed, however the thing with PES is that it grows on you to the point that you become addicted unlike FifA.

I also suffered that Fifa moment when I said that this game is a POS . When you have a game that capture's possible the greatest atmosphere ever in a football game but then this bimbo game system kicks in with the save dumb fingertip save from the keeper .

Glad that you have notice this as many Fifa fans block this out and start lying about how they score "hundreds of goals outside the box" it makes me feel sad inside for this donk .

Fifa is improving and Pes is actually starting to have a battle before it was just a massacre .

I agree with ess_jay, the scores are pretty realistic, although i got a 6-5 when playing with man u against juventus, but then again you do get really high scoring games in real life every now and again. apart from that its been mainly 2-0, 2-1 etc..

I've had very realistic results so far, except when everything clicked in one game (I'd lost 5 out of the 7 previous games) and I beat Celtic 7-1 (being 7-0 up at one point). Otherwise I'd have a very feasable spectrum of results.

7-1 against Celtic sounds like a pretty realistic score line to me!! I take it you were playing as BATE or CFR Cluj

Quite a few of my friends have bought FIFA 09 this year after being PES fans for many years. I'm not sure if they're bored of it yet as I haven't really talked to them (I've been away at Uni). Although I have to say I'm loving PES 2009, quite easily the best PES in years, you can tell Konami have really thrust their effort into making this as good as possible.

As for whether the results are realistic, I'd have to say they are. I've probably played around 20 matches against the COM and of these, the results are usually around the 2-1, 1-1 mark, that sort of thing. However I did beat Tunisia 6-1 with Nigeria when playing in the African Cup but that's barely unexpected if we're being honest. ;)

Ha ha, nah I was the original ML players... I'd player Celtic 4 times prior to that, I think I drew twice in the Division 2, and in the cup earlier this season, they beat me 2-1, but a Castolo hattrick saw me go through with a 3-1 second leg win.

I've just noticed you're at Northumbria Uni - I'm from around there myself - how are you finding it?

Difficulty levels play a big part in scores obviously, but so does your overall skill at the game.

Beginner through to Regular - The AI don't seem as fluent and give you more of a chance to score and get the ball back. Your team mates are not that great, some times lofting the ball when a simple pass can be made...

Professional through to Top player - The AI can punish you hard with the slightest mistakes. Some times it is really frustrating trying to get the ball back! Expecially in BAL at top player. Chances don't come thick and fast unlike lower difficulty settings. Your team mates will play a shit load better, using one touch play at times.

I definately think PES has the ability to make players enjoy it constantly till the next release.
Also there is so much diversity in scoring goals in PES 09, i played my mate a couple of times last night & every goal scored was completely different (maybe there was a couple of one on ones with the keeper but even then both finishes were slightly different even though it was with the same player) & that is why i think PES is the better game.
Sure it has it's flaws but so does every game & not just the football ones but overall i think PES has foundations in place for a great game & im sure everyone that plays PES more & more will find more aspects that they enjoy.

Yup, its just people don't give it a chance, or they don't have the patience to give the game a thorough testing... FIFA has been out longer than PES, maybe not that long, but it was released first. (09 series) Now I have read allot of posts saying people are losing interest with FIFA after rating it as the "best football" game ever...

If their losing interest, the offline game modes can't be that great, the online game modes can't be that great and most important of all, the gameplay doesn't seem interesting, if it was, people wouldn't be saying its too repetitive, or boring... Something that no-one has said about PES. :)

I'm slightly confused...

Yep i completely agree, i think everyone was all dazed by how good FIFA looked & the fact it made good strides towards making a much better game but when u look at it, the guys that have bought pro & enjoyed it at 1st are still enjoying it & not finding any problems.

I'm finding it good so far, still seems a bit strange at times, I get Thursday and Friday off so I have a 4 day weekend. :w00t

There is a hell of a lot of Irish people here though which is surprising, I can barely understand them, or the full-on Geordies. So far though I'm definetely enjoying it, have an essay to do at the moment, finished some other work last night so I'm taking a break. The weather has been freezing the last few days mind, scarf and hat out.

Yeah, I heard it was cold - my friend came up yesterday, and she expected it to be dead cold up here.

I lived in Blyth (30mins north of Newcastle) for 10 years and I always found it hard to understand the full-on Geordies, ha ha.

Longevity is the key-word here. The Fifa series seems to cather to those football fans which don't play the game for real.. to those people who watch it on TV and are worried with silly things like Rooney's face or something bizarre like that. Fifa also has some kind of hockey-approach to the game, making it like a ping-pong fest.

There's a common saying about football where I live which says: The goal is just a detail, or Scoring is just a detail. PES seems to grasp this concept by making every single aspect of football interesting, the game "happens" in every place on the field.

Also in PES we feel in total control of the upcomings, be it by changing players, formations, or the way a specific player will behave during the match, that's one thing I love.

Anyway, I'm playing '09 non-stop, already hooked and I didn't even check it out BAL,ML and the editing mode! I'm currently testing formations and teams in leagues. :D
