The impact of sliders/cards?

Me and my younger brother have been playing PES since the days of ISS and we have always had close/tense fought matches. We would spend hours on end, game after game after game, just going at each other and the score would always be the odd goal in one.

But, suddenly the next gen PES hit the scene and since PES 08 I have been getting absolutely annihilated and I mean every pluckin' time; 3-0, 4-0, 5-1 etc etc - the shame.

Finally I just gave up and said I'd never play him again and conceded that he was the better player by far. He of course took great satisfaction from this.

Funny thing was I have never been consistenly destroyed by any one single player offline or online. I just couldn't get to grips with his game.

Yesterday, since the release of PES 2010 we had our first game. score?- 5-1 to him.

Now without sounding too obnoxious I have a decent amount of knowledge about football, so taking into account that we now have those sliders and cards at our diposal I played him again BUT this time I just studied his game closely; 3-0 to him.

Now to mess with those sliders/cards, see how well they work. This is what followed in the 4 games we played;

3-3, 1-0 to him, 0-0, 2-1 to me.

He picked various team but his style of play was the same and I countered them, those sliders/cards working exactly as described in the menus. His final words;

"You are frustrating to play against"

Excellent.

Sorry if you went through all that crap, but I had this urge to type the merits of those new features and how well they work becuase it means that you can probably prevent most players playing a one dimensional game. Yes, even most dribblers.

That is all.

Buddy, i think after all the games he won, he just wanted to let you win. You played him so many times yet you cant counter his overused tactics and gameplay?? If he is a dribbler, in pes2010 defense is good, there is no way he can dribble past 3 defenders unless you are bad at defending and keep challenging him 1 by 1. Playing 1 dimensional game (like giving it to c.ronaldo and make him dribble) doesnt work very well now, you have to pass it around and the good players usually know by memory where everyone is.

^ Hah. I did ask myself the same question,

He is not a dribbler, well not an abusive one, anyway. You can definitely see the impact of those sliders. My players positioned themselves exactly as I wanted them; going forward or when defending. I'd like to believe this was due to my astute tactics.

Mate, please don't take this away from me.

CAN7ONA - revel in your glory for a bit.

Use the tactics to good effect, but it will not help you win matches if you don't counter the other players tactics on the pitch.

Especially in PES2010, I wouldn't have imagined he should be beating you by a few goals at all, I think your problem is most likely defending.

In 2010, crowd the player out, run and hit square and x so you'll tackle but bring other players into the tackles with you.

Do learn how to play 2010 constructively though. It allows you to pass your way to the goal line without so much as a slight tackle being made if you play quickly and precisely.

Best of luck, and post back when you give your bro a good hiding, like 6-0 or something!

Ok, the slider and cards do have a impact in game. For instance, some strikers like tevez have the "chase back" card which allows them to automatically run back and chase ppl down. But the most important one yet is the defender and def midfield card. You see, some defenders hold a critical "hold back" or whatever its called card, which allows them to never ever attack. People without this special card even if you set them to defensive minded, they will still randomly run up and support attack which leaves open spaces for counter attacks. But you still need to be good at the game. One thing is defending and breaking off attacks and another thing is knowing how to attack and when to dribble. You can be the best defender but if you are inconsistent when passing the ball, soon or later he will score because after all, football involves luck and if he has most of the possesion, soon or later he will score from a long shot, a cross or dribbling. Good luck exploring the tactics and hopefully you can start winning more.

That was the big problem in the previous PES's no matter what formation you used, you had no control on the positioning of the players once they were not in possession of the ball. With the improved AI combined with the sliders you have more control on the formation of the players when the opposition attacks.

Obviously this is, as you quite rightly say; dependent on certain situations and scenarios that materialise in a given match, but it's a great additiion to the game a addition that works brillliantly for the most part.
