The next big improvement: Directions

Ok, I searched this but couldn't find a thread on it.

I believe PES (and FIFA I guess), need to move on from 8 directional movements. Changing it to 16 directions or 32 direction would make the game extremely improved when you think about it.

It widens the possibilities available when running with the ball, when playing passes, and when shooting. It would increase the longevity of the game and provide a new level of uniqueness when playing.

In my opinion, this might sound like a small improvement, but it would make a BIG difference in gameplay. It NEEDS to be added to PES 10. Even if it is only 16 directions, thats twice the possibilities we have at the moment.

Thoughts?

It would be a nice addition I agree.

One thing I would also like to see back is the older style player options. The ones where you press Square on the PS to alter cursor change speed etc. The old one was much better as I like to play with unassisted player change, however, with the new version you even have to change it manually to the player you just passed to that one I think should happen automatically it's just I hate the assisted thing when a player goes on a winding run and you slide in from the front only for it to change your player right as you press it to the guy running behind causing you to hack him down and get a striaght red.

It wont happen as long as control pads have Hat switches. 8 directions is the limit of there capacity, and many people use only the hat-switch to move around the park.

Well, that's what I would expect from a Next Gen Console.. 8 Directional Movement just seems so Outdated now, I think New Animations and more Directions should be The main priorities for PES 2010.

The "manual" setting = "semi-assisted" in pes 09. Semi-assisted means you're only assisted in changing cursor on attack, whereas unassisted means you don't get assistance in cursor changing while on attack nor defend.

Although there are only 8 directions you can choose from, the players can run on a 16 point axis already. Have you not noticed this? For example sprint directly up, then hold right whilst continueing sprinting. Your lad will then run what effectively be between Up and Up-Right, then through to Up-Right etc

I harp on about the N64 version, but they had it right. In this, you used the analogue stick. I personally don't use the sticks for PES because there is no difference between me pressing right, and gently pressing right. They need to disable the ability to use digital input (ie, the d-pad) and make a slight press walk with the ball, a full press run, and then the normal sprint button. It's not things they haven't done before. I also really liked the aftertouch part. Alot of shooting was down to that. In my opinion, they should add it back - another piece of skill for PES players to use.
