I've played the game for a couple of days and found it was a new experience against the cpu but having played against humans, its too slow.........everybody can play perfect thro' balls and it seems to much like the original version, when people complained about this move.

The graphics however are top-notch far smoother and crossing/shooting are perfect ....but the speed is killing me

WE7 (Japan) was maybe a little too defensive (especially the AI) but when you scored you could celebrate. Now you have to worry about popping in 3 more just to have a chance. Its hard to criticize the best footie game ever (after only a day of playing) but clearly Konami has overcompensated. Has anyone figured out how to play some decent defense so hard core gamer/football purists can get back to those 1-0 and 2-0 battles?[/QUOTE]

whaaa whaaa i cant dribble up the pitch with nedved anymore........

spiceaddict is just upset because he is sh#te at the new game and keeps getting beaten. the game is much better more like real football. better players and the passing game is much more effective.

"Berty" is gonna change his tune in a few weeks when I get the hang of this game and start giving him regular 2, 3 and 4-0 humpings like I did with WE7. To Wit: England vs. Brazil Classics, Spiceaddict 4 -- Berty 0
Pele would be spinning in his grave.

I still think defenders miss their mark too much and passes are too easy, and I'll be thinking that long after berty gets his whuppin.

my defenders dont seam to miss there mark maybe its to do with skill. there is no skill in holding down square and hoping my player will run into yours. :square:

your sh#te and you know you are......

i think mr pele and his freind mr garincha will be hammering a number of shots past the calamity in the not too distant future.

Hey everyone,

Well, like I said yesterday, I`ll be getting my WE7I-Japan game tomorrow, and tomorrow is "today" Feb 25th. So this morning ( 11 am ) the UPS guy knocks on my door, hands me my WE7I-Japan game, and leaves :). I didn`t have enough time to play the game since I had to go to the gym, and pump some iron, then go tan, basicly my whole day was a busy one..grrrr...

Anyways, I came home and started playing WE7I-Japan ( I played a few matches, and I think I already can give out my reviews & impressions.. )

To be honest with you, I`m not that happy with the game. Playing WE7 for a long time and then playing this, feels like a totally different game. However, don`t get me wrong. There is some things that I like in WE7I-Japan and some that I don`t like.

Minus points:

- the entire game feels "too fast" it`s like watching a boxing match, they go back and forth so damn quick that your eyes start to hurt, that`s how fast the passing is, feels alot like in FIFA 2004, so the passing is WAY too fast IMO, and this really ticks off everyone. Now, being that passing is too fast, the gameplay becomes too fast as well. So from the gameplay, the whole game feels too fast. The ball goes back and forth, your eyes will hurt after the 1st half.. I don`t understand why did Konami make such fast passing system..it`s 95% similar to FIFA 2004's.

Now, headers are ok, good but they are TOOOO powerful aswell. I mean, this is very unrealistic. The player just kicks the ball with his head, like it was his strongest foot..soon you won`t need to use your left or right foot to score goals, you`ll use your head - very..very fucked up..

When you try to score a goal, and you kick the ball towards the goal, the ball will go dirrectly to the goal, just like in FIFA 2004...and the distance doesn`t matter anymore. Every single player, no matter if he`s strong or weak is able to have a powerful shot from let`s say 45 or even 50 meters..and it will reach the goal like it was kicked from 20 meters.. come on KONAMI ?? what` the heck is going on here..

Now some good points, keepers are improved alot, they catch the ball better, they cooperate with players nicely..

As far as the graphics, I don`t think they are any better than in WE7, maybe a little bit smoother when playing "sharper" but that`s about it. Crosses are better, and they look so damn realistic. Passing is too fast, BUT you can breathe more freely, meaning you can set good attacks, the ball reaches your teammate easily ..somethign that is deff...better than in WE7.. there is 2 new animations, one when you foul a player, then he helpis him out get up, and another one is when the oponent runs with the ball down the corner area, for some reason he slips, or he loses the ball and then he just falls on the ground.. very cool ..

If this game had WE7's passing speed, and a little weaker headers, and not having those powerful shots I would give it a high 9.8 but as of right now, the game get`s 8.9 .. sorry Konami.. if you continue to make futute WE series like this then I will never again buy any Konami football game. Or Konami, could team up with EA and start making FIFAWE games..

Berty,

That's tough talk from someone who didn't even know what defense was until WE7I came out. You used to hold down :x: and :square: as much as anyone. Now with the new no-skill-required crappy FIFA style passing you think you're king sh*te. If I were you I'd take a picture for posterity cause the suns about to set on your fledgeling hegemony. Remember when you could actually beat me at Tekken once in a while? I don't.

Also, notice how more and more people on this thread are realizing that WE7I is a step backward in realism? When are you gonna wake up?

And if you're so goddam good, why do you play on 4 stars so much?

Im curious...

And no I dont agree, WE7I is definately a step FORWARDS, its not easy at all im still playing at 4 * although Im getting better in it. Sometimes I still lose with 2-3 for example, so its definaltely harder. And Im sure you will think the same way.
I just had my taste of my WE7Int a few days ago and man, the magic and the gameplay are all there but unfortunately some sparks are missing.. No doubt, the cut scenes have been updated. I happened to witness the ref gesturing for a stretcher when my player was down with a serious injury. Impressive Also, by pressing R1, the keeper will drop the ball. Never seen before in previous edition. To tell you the truth, I was kind of apprehensive initially after reading many comments that the dribbling is tough, of whether Konami is heading where Fifa is heading. The road to mediocrity. I had wasted about a week ,playing non stop until it dawned on me that there is virtually no dribbling controls in Fifa. It is more of gallop, pace and luck disguising as dribbling. However on WE7Int, on my first match I can detect that the dribbling is make to looker tougher by the fast recovery of the defenders.. It is there but extremely difficult to pull off . I felt something is amiss in this game. It does not make me want to play the game more. On this latest edition, it is hard to be a Maradona, the defenders are really quick in recovering and I doubt whether we have time and space to think of where to place the shot on a one to one situation with the keeper. In real life, it is dribblers not passers of the ball who make headlines. Dribblers who can take 3 or 4 defenders on the go are worshipped like idols. How can this important aspect of the game be given such low emphasis . On WE7, the dribbling has been revolutionized to almost like the real thing(except for the Jump which need a bit of refinement). The sidesteps and the turns are so realistic that through perfect timing we can beat the defenders while on the run. Dribbling in WE7 is not easy but neither is it difficult. Just perfect..

Similarly, I am kind of uncomfortable with the passing. It does not rely fully on the directional button and it sure looks like computer aided. Even at full manual setting it does not help. Say, if your player is on a North East position and your player with the ball is facing East, by pressing the X button without the directional button will see your player passing to the player NE instead of East. There isn’t any need for you to press the directional button for the intended direction. It goes there automatically. Try hitting the ball out of the pitch with the X button. You can only do that when you are close to the sideline. Other than that you will see your player passing the ball either diagonally or directly to the player closest to you by merely depressing the X button .Once I had a winger on the flanks. I merely have to tap the X button to execute a low pass. The pass was collected spot on by my striker for a lovely volley despite the fact that there were 4 defenders crowding him. Despite scoring one of the most beautiful goal I have ever seen, I wasn’t ecstatic or jumping for joy. Instead I was concerned why Konami fix something that ain’t broke. The passing in WE7 was the best. On my letter to Konami Part 2, I have wished for more power on the triangle button for through passes or fly through passes but not on the X button.. The strength and direction of the pass should depend on the amount of pressure you exert on the X button and directional button respectively. It should entail some kind of skill and reflex action.and not blindly hit the x button to produce the desired result.

I sure hope that WE7Int is not a prelude to Winning 8. It is not the ultimate Football gaming experience. WE7 unfortunately is.

after almost a week of playing we7i i made my mind up, I like the good old we7 more..

we7i is too easy and to arcade style for me, i have this feeling that player stats just don't mean sh*t in this game, as it seems everybody can give a great cross now, everybody got a powerfull header now. yes defensive headers have improved, what i mean by that is they clear a ball better, BUT have you seen with what unrealistic power they do it sometimes??? they clear it with their head to midfield half of the time, we are talking 40m headers here. also offensive headers are sometimes so powerfull to the point that it freaks me out, yesterday evening i scored a header from OUTSIDE the box in the top corner with RONALDO, the goal looked just f*cking amazing, but soooooo unrealistic.
Not to mention long distance shot, it looks like price shooting.. when ive got the ball on midfield and i have some space in front of me, i walk a few yards and just shoot, i don't care wich player i am i just try it as it brings danger 100%. if it does'nt hit target then it hits another player and it bounces of so hard that i have a chance in rebound, looks like ping pong from time to time. ive scored some AMAZING long distance goals in the last few days, thats good, but its just tooooo easy in we7i, ive even placed Buffon (GK) on the wing one game, and believe it or not, but he gives GREAT becham like crosses and can shoot pretty DAMN good for a GK.

Also i have the feeling that i have less control over my corners, in we7 i can place a corner pretty much were i want to (depends a bit on wich player takes the corner) but in we7i i have this feeling that all players are taking corners the same way. for instance, i cant place a ball beyond the far post in a corner in we7i, no matter how long i press circle the ball just goes to the middle in the box.

The game could have been great, but as it is now its a bit to arcade/easy/fifa'ish to me.
A friend of me loves the game tho, even when ive beated his ass 5-0 yesterday evenig. :D

anyway, this is my opinion about the game, i will play it from time to time tho, just against some friends.. but most of the time i will play the good old we7, more realistic to me.

You know guys, I still stand behind of what I said about WE7I-Japan, however after playing more and more matches, I`m slowly starting to get used to this new fast passing system.. What I realised was, WE7 is too hard, and WE7I-Japan is hard. So now if you feel that the game is easy you can play on star 4..Konami didn`t give you much of a chance on moving to next level..only if you`re so damn good..but now you can go and play on star 4..even 5. I know alot of people who always stick to star 3 on WE7 and never move on.. Now, Passing is indeed fast BUT now you get a great chance of passing through the oponents, something that was missing in WE7. When you get the ball, and if you play smart..noone will try to rape you on the midfield like in WE7 this is if you move the right way, but once you pass that midfield area then the defenders will start to chase you..even with 2 or more players at once..this is realistic. I see alot of people who are not happy with the game, and I don`t / can`t blame them.. however, after you play more and more matches you` will get more conf. with the game trust me, and if you feel it`s easy to score, then play on star 4..if you`re really...really good...then play on star 5... THEN if it`s still easy, get the game out of your PS2 console, take a good hammer, and smash it into pieces :D

Now, I do believe that this is the way WE8 will lead on. Konami will improve this passing issue, get a few new licenses, put an extra or two new stadiums.. add some new moves/animations, improve a commentary a little bit..but no matter what they do to it Peter Brackley and Trevor will still suck. Maybe we should wait until WE11 get`s released.. check this out Winning Eleven 11 there was some guy on this new WE board that says once Konami reaches that 11" number, they could retire from WE games

I'm playing WE7:IJ on 5* since the start. I've won almost all my matches.
To me it seems like 5* on WE7:IJ is more like 6* on WE7/PES3.

Hehe Eksol is changing his mind.
Although I dont agree with you on the point of shooting. Indeed shooting is a lot easier BUT still you have to stand correct behind the ball. For example the players who shot the most from distance on goal are DMF like Vieira, Gattuso and Davids, In WE7 I wont even shot with these players, the ball would go high above the goal, a fucking bad shot almost. But now with WE7I i shot an outrageous shot with the outside of the feet with Gattuso on goal!! It wasnt a goal cuase the keeper made a superb save. Couple minutes later almost same situation also outside the box with Gattuso but now the shot was a totall misshot! The ball went a couple of metres next to the goal. I wanna say that its still very hard to score from distance, you still must be in right position for the ball, you must shot with the good feet. Otherwise you have a big chance that the ball would be far over! I think the new shooting system is EXCELLENT, it couldnt be better.

If you have an X-Port, use the WE7:IJ option file from evo-web (posted in the Editing section here) and you'll have all the player names in English plus almost everything bought from the shop plus most clubs flags looking haf-decent.

Agree with GFK, I love the shooting system, I try to explain all the time that even average players can score from 30 m and that such goals happen every gameday but some people still ignore that fact  Well, it´s their problem, if they can´t comment on it then I see that I´m right... also yesterdays goal for Porto against ManU came into being from a perfect cross with the players weak foot...
I just played WE7 the first time since Monday last week and man, I quit after 2 games, it was really weak compared to WE7:I Jap

No header power bar. Not much difference in chips.
The Right-Analogue-Stick Down-then-up move is supposed to not go as high as before. But I haven't tried it yet.

I don't think the number bug is fixable?

Haven´t noticed a number bug, didn´t pay attention to that though. And there IS a power bar for headers, just look properly :D
Although it´s not for every header so I guess it depends on the cross and the players positioning
